Bloody typical

All the way back in 1979 the EU banned "brown for kippers" so my research tutor, when working at a French university for three months to get his hands on CERN time to blast glycoproteins to pieces, sent back increasingly miserable communications berating the sickly yellow shit the shops there jokingly called Kippers.

I'm not exactly sure how our prof defeated the ban but I remember being sent to Tesco one lunchtime to buy 100 packets of Scottish Kippers in their magnificently brown and yellow colouring which were promptly packed in dry ice and shipped off by urgent airfreight to the said university with the contents described as "UK Marine Species Tissue samples for research ...."

A friend of mine in our team was, at the time, researching heavy metal poisoning in Rainbow Trout so it was not exactly unknown for us to ship frozen fishy bits to places where high powered Mass Spec and Electron Microscopes beyond those at our call could blast these samples and report their chemical condition ...

I suspect he used our links to Portion Down to get them exported expeditiously. All I know is we got a letter a week later saying "Thanks for Samples - Our Research Team now Most Favoured In Project Amongst Expats"
<t>In matters of taxation, Lord Clyde\'s summing up in the 1929 case Inland Revenue v Ayrshire Pullman Services is worth a glance.</t>

never heard of the word snorker before pappy.

i thought you were talking about snorkelling in the sea for a minute. Take it its an english colloquialism?

What do you think pappy?

Do you think the uk will survive or is armageddon only now 48 hours away?
