No excuse for spelling errors in newspapers given the extensive use of Smell Chequers nowadays  ;). Or excuse for using American spellings like "defense" rather than "defence", Cromwell! The factual errors are definitely important, though we all make mistakes especially if working to deadlines. A big problem today seems to be the rise of these dodgy internet sites that people seem to believe that proffer completely crazy ideas but have a significant following. But then even genuine journalism can, and is, weighted by the political views of its owner or its past traditions.

You make a good point.
Both accuracy of facts and accuracy of spelling and punctuation matter, as they can so easily skew meaning of a phrase or sentence.
There seems to be fake news for malevolent reasons, false news because people cannot get it right, and every newspaper report I ever read, where I had personal knowledge of local facts, was incorrect, without exception.

How do we really know what are facts and fiction in todays bendy plastic Internet society?
I wish I knew.

The grauniad isn't named so without good reason, don't newspapers employ proof readers anymore?
Does it matter? Well to me yes it does as much as journalistic accuracy,I was skimming through the the DM today and there were numerous errors including reference to a defense contract,an article on an archaeological dig at the now closed Sobibor concentration camp (it's closed really?) it went on to describe how it was set up by the Wermacht......Ermm no it wasn't the Wermacht were the German army the concentration camps were set up and run by Himmlers SS a completely separate entity to the wermacht.
Not that long ago itv news were doing a piece on picassos's iconic painting of the bombing of Guernica in WW2......well no it wasn't Guernica was the Basque town bombed during the Spanish civil war by the condor legion, the air arm being from Germany's Luftwaffe two years before ww2 broke out,I contacted itv news who basically didn't give a toss or correcting their error.
Does any of this matter,I guess not if you think the media needn't bother spelling or presenting facts correctly.
Energy....secure and affordable, not that hard is it?
