And foxes. Cats are buggers for killing fox cubs. And birds spend a lot of their time killing other birds. And seals work their way through mega quantities of fish and anything that is daft enough to come within range.
Don't see the equivalence there. The natural world does what it does. But when humans introduce foreign  species into the mix the balance gets disturbed — eg, rats on Canna killing the native bird population, domestic cats killing native species in New Zealand, mink killing native mammals and birds in UK, etc, etc, etc...

Instead of all the lovies up the Thames saying how cute the pinniped was someone should have waved a Canadian flag and a pickaxe in its direction and it would have done one back to the Wash

The Met Police today confirmed it was looking to speak to the owner of an out-of-control dog that killed a beloved Thames seal amid calls for them to be fined.
The force told MailOnline officers are investigating the death and 'looking to identify witnesses and to speak to the owner of the dog involved' amid warnings that attacks from unleashed pets are on the rise during lockdown. The owner of a dog that chases or attacks farm animals can be fined up to £1,000, or £2,500 if the offence was deliberate, while farmers are allowed to shoot pets attacking their flock. Similar fines apply to attacks on wild animals, although hunting-related offences see higher penalties of £5,000.

Horrific pictures and disturbing story, and not something that ordinary Londoners want to see happening as they walk beside the Thames.

But would some of these distraught animal lovers be the same people who let their pet cats out to freely decimate the bird, lizard and vole populations...?
