I think it's terrible Owen Jones has been attacked. I hope the perpetrators are tried  and given at least a month in the Maldives  :D

How much did they charge, and do they accept cheques?

But seriously, people were charged for harassing Soubry, but not for throwing eggs at Farage, so given that eggs could cause real harm and hurty words can't, it's easily political.

Surely you are yolking? Farage was certainly all white afterwards. Anyway you can't make Breggsit without breaking shells, however scrambled the remainers idea of democracy is.

Jones was pushed over outside a pub. If it had happened to anyone on this board we would have been told to go home and take an aspirin. But Jones is a Guardian columnist and it happened in the People's Republic of Islington so Plod has spent two months ignoring knife crime in the rest of London and will no doubt do their best to see that his alleged assailants are stitched up like kippers.

I do wish that there was a 'thankyou' or 'approval' button on this very promising new site. In your inimitable non p.c. manner Borchester you say what so many of those of us with both both feet firmly grounded think. While I accept that violence is rarely justified ( except when pulling extinction rebellion activists of the roof of tube trains!!!) I can imagine that just the arrogant all knowing, arrogant, superior estuary whine of Owen Jones would be enough to make most people want to deck him!

Report here.

I can't find the thread now, but I think we said it seemed he had no injuries, Javert. Someone must have had injuries to charge ABH, although affray requires no injuries, just a melee.

We'll see how the trial goes.
QuoteJames Healy, 39, of Laburnum Grove, Portsmouth, Liam Tracey, 34, of Boswell Street, Camden and Charlie Ambrose, 29, of Borough Street, Brighton have been charged with ABH and affray over the attack at The Lexington pub in Islington on 17 August.

They will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 6 November.

The matter is now sub judice.

Well, sub judice it may be,but that doesn't exactly stop me pointing out the Independent (go do your own googling, people)  quoted Metropolitan Police Sources stating none of those injured needed assistance from the London Ambulance Service nor did any need hospital treatment.

That the Met saw fit to make that statement speaks to the perceived - by police accustomed to picking up the pieces - degree of injury, and it's worth stating the charge is "ABH" which isn't "GBH"

Assault and battery also require no injury, but to be frank, Owen's presence alone is enough to cause assault, usually on the senses.  Assault is about intention, battery requires physical contact such as shoving.

This reminds me of that Bernard Manning Joke. The wife shouted to me that the mother in law was being attacked by 5 men. Wasn't I going to help?

I said no, 5 should be enough.

I see that 3 people have now been charged over the attack on Own Jones and his friends.

I seem to recall that some posters "here" questioned whether the attack had even taken place and/or implied that it was nothing serious.  The charges include ABH and affray.

Presumably if the police and CPS have enough evidence to charge people it was quite a serious attack.

I find some of Jones' ideas a bit crazy, but I have no reason to question his honesty if he is attacked on the street

Well political disagreements or general differences are never best solved by violence IMO.

Robust/loud debate yes trying to shut people down that way (if it was politically motivated) is wrong
Energy....secure and affordable, not that hard is it?
