Just as a matter of interest, if anyone is thinking of starting a new contract, or got one coming to an end:

It always used to be the case that taking a year or two year fixed price contract or plan would be the cheapest.

But now, the cheapest is usually the government capped standard variable rate, so choose wisely.

As an example, my brother is with E.ON and he recently was asked to choose a new contract as his was expiring. The gas price he was currently paying was about 3p per kWh, the best fixed contract price was about 10p a kWh, whereas the government capped rate was about 4p per kWh.

I might set up Happy Clappy Energy, run by ageing hippies who had a few too many acid trips back in the day.

Their promise will be cheap energy provided by compost heaps, with free tofu and lettuce to reward loyal customers.

Their board meetings will rely heavily upon mind expansion, facillitated by copious amounts of pot and LSD. This will encourage thinking outside the box.

Customers who pay all their bills on time will recieve a free copy of the Dark Side of the Moon album, in vinyl of course.

Customers who leave will receive letters chastising them for being squares. And if that doesnt work, they'll be named and shamed as meat eaters.

Staff dress codes will include the obligatory wearing of sandals. Long hair for both genders will be necessary, with beards for the males. Top level managers will be known as gurus.
We are not all in the same boat. We are in the same storm. Some of us have yachts. Some of us have canoes. Some of us are drowning.

I shouldn't do it, but I laughed when I heard that Together energy have gone to the wall. It leaves Warrington Council (Labour) exposed to over £50 million in debt. This is the company that tried to scam me and send in bailiffs for a debt I did not owe.
