Its a long way to drive from kent john.
Yes it is, but with the new inter Schengen area ferry they can ride to Eire pop North walk the plank and paddle the remaining bit.

The gulf stream will make it more survivable in winter and dickhead Drakeford will welcome them with open arms to his nation of sanctuary.

Until the diseases start wiping out his voters ....

What an excellent suggestion. If they started it from the Irish side Gerry could open a rubber raft shop on the pier they'd make at the end ...

Was it really necessary to cancel the whole project? Wouldn't it have made sense to build half the bridge, thus halving the length of the boat trip? I mean, that's essentially what they did with HS2.Dancing

What do you mean "cancel". There was nothing to cancel , it was never anything more than an empty gesture intended to distract unionists. Anyone who lives in the area , or is familiar with it , knew fine well it was never going to be built due to the collosul cost , extreme engineering and dangers of beaufort dyke.

This is boris johnson  , the man famous for saying a pound spent in croydon is worth more than a pound spent in strathclyde. They are hardly about to pump tens of billions into joining two nations that are on the verge of leaving westminster rule.

Another non story.

I had hopes. The most popular route is Portpatrick to Larne, which is doable. I am not sure what the point of it would be economically, but if it were lit up and made into one of Boris' flower bridges, then how bad would that be? Twenty miles of Burkwood Osmanthus! There are some sad bastards in Ulster, but a few sniffs of that and they would soon start to act like human beings.

I thought in that part of the world twenty miles of castor bean plant would be more useful
