The days when an unelected Lord could be Prime Minister are long gone. To be effective any Prime Minister needs to sit in the Commons.

I see it slightly differently. I'm not a Tory and I've never been a supporter of Johnson. But some of the potential replacements look worse. They might be more responsible and respectable, but what worries me is that they might also be more right-wing.
One thing you can say about the Tory party, they are survivors they will lie and cheat, manipulate, spin for all they are worth and still get people to vote for them, as the opposition is no better.
Just because I don't say anything, it doesn't mean I haven't noticed!

Well Boris has reduced the Tory brand to the point where almost anyone is better tham him. Sad fact.

Then there's ambition as well - people who are after the top job would like to see an opportunity presenting itself, especially if they believe (erroneously, probably) that we've reached rock-bottom re covid, Brexit and scandals.

Behind every leader there tends to be a king maker. With Blair/Brown it was Peter Mandelson, Geoffrey Howe or perhaps Willie Whitelaw for Margaret Thatcher, Dominic Cummings for Boris. So where is that person now for the next Conservative leader? There has to be one prepared to kill any expectations of their own hopes to pin their marker to the one who will take the party on.

Boris slipped up by marrying Carrie without Cummings'approval it seems, then compounded the error by sacking him. I doubt  BJ will ever recover.  Search as I might I cannot see a team to take not only the Conservatives forward but the country. BJ had one task but got swept away with Covid, as would any leader at this time. He is now damaged beyond repair in my view but now the word is that Sunak is the rising star with Conservative membership. Not for me. What a pickle.

Always thought it might well be Kit Malthouse, he was always his main voice when Mayor, of London, and very often has come out of the shadows in recent times. As far as who comes next. Well Hunt, would still like it, but is he to much of a John Major figure? Sunak, as chancellor must have a sniff, but I think their best option would be Gove, a snake, but if anyone can wriggle the party out of where it is it's him. Brilliant at the dispatch box, and that's where they need a brilliant pair of hands to get confidence back, in what is going to be an extremely difficult period. With rising prices ,inflation, etc, the party is sitting on a potential disaster anyway. Gove, has as much ability to do what he can with all that as anyone else in the party.

Forget the Kingmaker. Where is the King? Looking forward to PM questions today. Can BoJo survive Partygate?

Maybe ask Nick or has he done a Boris and is lying low?

With the justified attacks on Johnson being an open goal for anyone who can shoot straight and with dealings with the EU not it seems being robust enough I would like to think Lord Frost might have something to do with it .
