I think many share your hope Barry. We certainly need a sense of direction but I wonder if there are many who will not accept being 'governed'. Too many want to do their own thing without the limitations of democracy as they see it.
My hope is not in Liz Truss, but I do hope for a government that will act in the best interests of the people. Taking actions which are increasing power costs by a factor of eight is not in the best interests. Gov are currently saying that is out of their control, which it is because they are just sitting on their backsides until the next leader comes along. I'm afraid a 5% VAT cut won't help much, but it is a step in the right direction.
I'm probably one of those who does not like to be governed in the current form of democracy, because it is not actually democratic. The two party system is looking close to an end, let's hope so as we need a fresh start in politics.

Being held hostage, is not what democracy was ever about, but has just become about, if you support hostage taking that makes you as bad as them.
Just because I don't say anything, it doesn't mean I haven't noticed!

She must know she has won.

Rumours are Priti Patel (I watched tens of thousands cross the channel) is due to get the rocket in favour of Suella Braverman.
Kemi Badenoch will get a job, possibly transport.
Kwasi Kwarteng - Chancellor
Defence Ben Wallace with Penny Mordaunt

The team really does need to gain popularity and trust from the electorate in 2 years or they will be out.
It would be good to see the end of the impression of crisis management, in favour of "Strong and Stable".
We'll see.
The problem Patel faces is that we used to have a Home Secretary that did both border control and trials. Now we have the job split. We need to castrate the lawyers who persist in interfering in our border control. We could deport a few to Rwanda to deal with their clients cases from there for a start.
<t>In matters of taxation, Lord Clyde\'s summing up in the 1929 case Inland Revenue v Ayrshire Pullman Services is worth a glance.</t>
