This advice to give to charity means the government are giving money to people who do not need it. They have produced a broad brush response to an acute problem, obviously a knee jerk reaction to try to solve it. As with all rushed legislation and actions, it will have unintended consequences.

One will be that next year, the Tories will be labelled "heartless" when they need to rein it back in.
