What with gropers, tractors, rumours, liars and so many chancers Westminster really needs an overhaul because it's clear that it's not working.

No it doesn't.

It has been nearly 700 years since Simon de Montfort asked the shires to sent delegates to help him run the country, and if Parliament hasn't sorted matters out by now then we are well buggered and it is time to stop fartarsing around.

You mean a bit like the speed awareness course for drivers caught going a few mph over the limit...?
Ha ha, yes.
But in this case it only needs for one of those allegedly assaulted to make a statement to the police and he wouldn't have any choice.
Unless, of course, he is innocent, which he obviously isn't.

He probably thinks that it beats a fine or a prison sentence.

On climate change — we're talking, we're beginning to act, but we're still not doing enough...

And he hopes to avoid resigning as an MP.

I think he should go to avoid tarnishing his party further. Yes that would involve a possible byelection disaster but the hubbub from that would blow over in a week and the loss of one seat barely dents the Tory majority. And they'd probably win it back at the next election

But what his resignation would achieve is avoid it being an issue there at the next GE, when every seat everywhere is up for grabs. If he is still MP then, his conduct is likely to be a big local issue that could cost him the seat.

Better the Tories risk losing the seat now to regain it at the next election, than risk losing it then when every seat counts. At least that would be my thinking if I were a Tory.

Labour is highly likely to try and make sleaze an issue at the next election. The last thing the Tories need to be doing is gifting them a sitting MP such as this guilty of gross sexual misconduct.
We are not all in the same boat. We are in the same storm. Some of us have yachts. Some of us have canoes. Some of us are drowning.
