Mrs Begum forms an important part of my geriatric fantasies. There are a lot of things I would like to do to her, but throwing darts at her is not one of them.. drbble dribble, slobber....

She is very sweet but like a lot of Bangladeshis, not overly fond of blacks or East Europeans. While I like to think that we long established Brits do our bit for mindless racism and bigotry, I have noticed that the folk who are often most prejudiced against the current wave of immigrants are the ones who arrived from somewhere else a generation before.

Quite so. I'm imagining they will all be lined up in cubicals and the job would be soul-destoying. However I'm also imagining there will be a lot of the Middle Eastern lot there with poor English skills, but training will be given.

It really does depend on your attitude to life and to other people.

An example is back in around 1965 ish,I was driving up from San Diego , and being somewhat innocent on my first visit to the West Coast, I was driving up Sepulveda Blvd., to the San Fernando Valley to visit family, and decided to divert to a shopping mall which had been advertised heavily, to get my cousin a gift.

It was in Culver City, and I was immediately an Alien - the only white guy in the mall.

What the hell should I do?

I just put on my best Sandhurst accent and asked a bunch of lads if they could help me to find the way to a gift shop - they looked at me , laughed and immediately became my friends , and asked 'of course' if I knew the Queen, as they escorted me around the mall with us all laughing and joking!

No need for the Marines.

However, my cousin fainted when I told her the story.
