Yes yes Borky, we had lower interest rates the days we had to wear a shirt and tie to get a mortgage. But house prices were much lower so the amount you borrowed was significantly less and as such so was the interest amount you paid each month. But even so, that still doesn't change the fact people will be paying more in increased mortgage rates than saving on energy. And isn't that really what people vote on. Their wallet.

Also, is it your aim to champion Liz Truss so the Pound sinks to such an extent that the score you owe me is the equivalent to a pint so you can just buy me a round when the time comes for you to pay up?

Meanwhile, I have been chopping up firewood and creating kindling for my DEFRA approved log burner, I have used no gas yet whatsoever apart from showers and baths. As we will be getting good temperatures this week, I will be storing more in case winter really arrives.
Just because I don't say anything, it doesn't mean I haven't noticed!

Oh pigshit.

Unemployment is currently at 4% whereas for the last 50 years it averaged 6%

The bank rate is currently 2.25%, while for the last 50 years it has averaged 7%.

The sad thing about so many of these posts is not that they reveal the posters to be cowardly weasels, but that they are clearly proud to be so.

Our balance of payments has to tell a tale, if contrasted to the flat growth Boycey highlights.

Another problem Truss has, if her plan is high growth, in two years she had to produce results. At this moment in time she can't even have low growth given she has criticised her own government for it. Although I am more sure we will be in recession given nobody is going to afford anything.

No the sad thing is you cannot see this has only just begun and if some action is not taken it will get much worse.

And all posted without reference to any other posters being cowards or weasels.
It already has got much worse.

Unless you are saying Blair has full control of the Tory party I am failing to understand what any of this has to do with the text you quoted about Mortgage rates going up. I am fully aware that Blair was a Tory mole, which is why I have always maintained we have had a Tory government now for nearly 45 years. But he doesn't control Dizzy Truss who sounds like she is suffering from dementia listening to her on Kuenssberg right now.

Yes Bliar was Maggies protege, but what have they been doing?

That's easy,filling their boots.
Filling their boots ,yes, but we haven't had the means to avoid living beyond our means since Maggie, decimated our industrial base. Our balance of payments has to tell a tale, if contrasted to the flat growth Boycey highlights.

Again no disagreement Pappy. Maybe you might want to discuss this further with @Barry given he thinks as he hasn't seen any consequence yet that this must be an overreaction by the market. No point quoting me, we are on the same side if you haven't realised.
If he has not seen any consequences yet he needs to get out more. The rise in the cost of living is scary over the last few weeks. Plus when fixed rate mortgages run out they are already in some cases 10.5% interest.

The best line is growth has been slow for the past 20 years and the Tories have been in power for the past 12 (actually it's the entire 20). What exactly have they been doing?

Liz the economic equivalent of a wrecking ball has declared she believes the UK is as Maggie described Liverpool..........

In managed decline,I prefer to think it mismanaged decline.

For me it resembles ,what was a decent Company/Industry , asset stripped to the point of extinction, with the directors and share holders counting their profits.

I am afraid Kamakazi Kwarteng and Liz (Un)Truss(tworthy,) have managed between them to fubar the economy.

No disagreement here Pappy. I was more talking about balancing the books or Kenyesism economics than Trussnomics which is fairytail.

You really must be joking. The only people who understand the current economic disaster are those making the profits out of doom.
