Haven't you got a local online community  group Toots ? We have one which is used by the local moanalots and basically for getting info out there like lost cats , lost kids and found bus passes .

All a bit boring we would agree but these sites are habited by the local bugles , do-gooders and nosey old cows . The end result therefore to a post like your opener is that every man and his dog including the local plod will be aware of it within 20 minutes .

Yep. I've just registered with nextdoor.co.uk and the first post was a lost cat!

These local sites can be useful - just be careful how you set up privacy settings.

Given the near non existence of visible policing here, the Police community messaging service is essential. It has saved several lives by finding missing people often within minutes of the police posting a missing person message.

If you are registered for the police/community information service as I am, they use a one to many phone call/text/email system that 20 minutes is more like five minutes. (The last time I reported suspicious characters and the registration number of the vehicle they were associated with, they were stop checked and arrested very quickly with a load of stolen goods.)

No its just an aresbook page , the last thing I want is some random busy body phoning me up every 5 minutes because some idiot has forgotten their key and is climbing over the back gate three houses up .

You could buy this and hang it where its visible from the door (you can buy genuine badges too) you can say do you want me to ask my son he's in the garden,if they beat a hasty retreat then you'll know for sure.

Ok I gave the local constabulary a call - it's about 15 miles away I think. Anyway a very nice lady took the details and said she would have been concerned too. She has given me an incident number and will pass it on to more local uniforms.

I am passing on advice from the police that has been in place for years. People you don't know knocking the door is VERY suspicious and areas get targeted the police need to know as soon as possible.

I have a permanent notice by my front door to deter unknown people from knocking the door.

(Such notices are available from police/trading standards as well as on the internet.)

More and more areas are becoming no cold calling zones.

Yeah. Give Plod a bell. They may well think that you are a nutter but by and large they think most everyone is a nutter so tell them what is going on.



It is probably a couple of Poles looking for some fellow countrymen with whom they can have a bit of a craic, but better safe than sorry.

Really, it needs reporting urgently. It is VERY suspicious. (They could well be "casing" homes for some one else. It is a standard tactic.)
