Keeping one or two cats doesn't constitute a herd to my mind. Mind you — with some people reckoning the time since 1820 is best described as hundreds of years; many means most; and a hike in prices of food means the uk would struggle to survive — inflation in word-meaning seems catching on here.

Keeping one or two cats in overnight is not difficult. And chipped or not, they still catch birds, field mice, lizards, shrews, voles, etc, which are already under stress.

I reckon there should be a limit in cat owning to one per ten houses, and have them licenced, and spayed by law (except for registered breeders)...

There are too many domestic and feral cats. They're responsible for the destruction of much natural beneficial fauna. The U.K. should do what NZ did some years ago and collect and cull any cats found out after dark — say have a curfew between 10pm and 6am, and destroy any unchipped cats found out during those hours and heavily fine the owners of chipped cats...

I'm going to go with a no for that one.

Also going into a casual 'let's talk about pets' thread and advocating a culling of pets is a little much.

I'll just laugh at pat's idea you can herd cats. Clearly he has no experience of them. And someone really ought to quietly take him to one side and point out the chipped ones can't do any more contributing to what he sees as their excess numbers ....
<t>In matters of taxation, Lord Clyde\'s summing up in the 1929 case Inland Revenue v Ayrshire Pullman Services is worth a glance.</t>
