Interesting to see who is funding them

Handed them a bit less than 0.001% of his net worth...

Interesting that, a quote says:
QuoteSir Christopher Hohn, who is worth £1.2 billion, gave £50,000 to the group, because there is an "urgent need" for people to wake up to climate change.

The charity he co-founded, the Children's Investment Fund Foundation, also donated more than £150,000.

How is that legal as a charity funding extremism? Should be investigated by the Charities commission, surely?

Extinction Rebellion is an international movement that uses non-violent civil disobedience in an attempt to halt mass extinction and minimise the risk of social collapse.

Who knows, it might just work — as long as it doesn't antagonise the majority...

Yes I know the website is out of date ,I was bringing XR  roots into the debate  .  They seem to have become a little less keen on giving out the detail over the years of exactly what they mean by  things like 'minimise the risk of social collapse ' . Changing their website doesn't mean they have changed tact .Their previous entity meant we would be going back to pre Victorian Britain , nothing has changed on that score .

XR was born out of a political movement (Rise up ) which advocated  among other things a change to the political and economic systems under which we live . They talked of greater equality for all ,zero carbon and wealth redistribution .

They want to change the way we live without our consent yet talk of democracy . The sort of democracy that only works if your with them .They are environmentalists  on steroids .

Stopping man made global warming /climate change or whatever they want to call it is not the purpose of their movement ,it is the vehicle on which they know they will gain the most support from those not paying attention to their main agenda of political change through the back door .

I totally agree with what you say there, but would like to add that this idea has been going around for some time. Our area does its bit to help it along, and the philosophy is identical, but nothing to do with Rising Up, since the first we got glimpse of its effects was the Transition Town movement, and the philosophy you describe was fully embedded in our local idiots long before. I'm talking about even in the early 90s it was prevalent. Recall the actions at Twyford and the tree protests. I knew many of those involved. I kind of got a glimpse of how it worked and sad to say it was a case where the media had contacts with certain very middle class people, one of which was a friend of mine, so it would be unfair to say too much, but he had contacts with people like Channel 4. I don't really know how much he knew, but I felt he was somewhere between a useful idiot and someone just finding it all a great deal of fun and chance to get out and do stuff. It beats working in a factory. One thing I've always strongly disagreed with these people is over technology. They want to go back to a pre-industrial age.

On climate change — we're talking, we're beginning to act, but we're still not doing enough...

People are to scared to question or deny man made global warming in case they're called heretics. The fact is that the science is sketchy at best an I am quite happy to question it as the science doesn't add up.

One of my golden memories which I am proud to share with you, my devoted admirers.

You see Cambridge is at the heart of the establishment and also part of the university network. Recall I mentioned the founder of ER married a London university professor, well perhaps London talks to Cambridge and shares the odd glass of wine at social functions, so perhaps they believed Cambridge might have been rather happy to air their hobby-horse in public. What you might not realise is how much money Cambridge university actually has. It's a bit hidden from public view, but at one time it was possible to walk from Oxford to Cambridge without stepping off land owned by the university. So consider how much it would cost to return that spot of land. To the likes of you and I it would feel like spending about 10p! Compare the price of the equivalent commercial advertising and they are quids in. more climate change = more research money.

I feel that it would raise the tone of this quotidian blog if, ever and anon, you would publish selections of your anecdotes from the Cambridge Festspiele my dear baron.

I recall a vivacious exchange of views with my  fellow bon vivant, small  Stevlin , on the very topic of the Cambridge Festspiele.

Whilst conceding that many many people enjoy the Festspiele, I always felt it was sailing rather too close to the wind of mass appeal for my very refined tastes. Small Stevlin disagreed, but there was always that tiny tiny streak of, not vulgarity per se, but perhaps insecurity in his character.

Can you show me the graphs that indicate a rise in CO2 drives temperature increase?

I can give you the data that shows the exact opposite.

Of course you can,but they won't count.

If you tell them that all the experts in the seventies told us we were entering a new ice age they just say Aahh! but the science has moved on since then and they'll then tell you it's the hottest, coldest, windiest, wettest since records began and you say yes but the earth been around a long time and the records if compared to earths existence translated in to a 24 hour clock cycle wouldn't equal a millisecond.

Whatever you say you'll be told you are a denier because this is the new religion and any who question it are heretics who are old gammon like without an education and likely voted brexit. :shrg:
Energy....secure and affordable, not that hard is it?

Most experts now say that man-made CO2 emissions are contributing to global warming.  The correlation between emissions statistics and global annual average temperature statistics definitely indicates this.  Each year that emissions increase and the global temperature rises (or stays the same) increases the likelihood of the correlation.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Hyperduck Quack Quack

Most political movements have their extremists. The old left had Militant etc.  The new right has EDL and the now-banned Britain First.  Religions have their extreme fringes, usually described as fundamentalists.  So it's not surprising that the environmental movement has the same.

Global warming will cause a lot of problems for a lot of people, mainly those facing rising sea levels from melting ice caps over Antarctica and Greenland. A few borderline species might go extinct but life will survive and adapt, including humans.  But it's a scenario best avoided (if we're causing it) or best to avoid exacerbating if we're not.

Yes they should all be nicked Nick . The policing costs  of these protests not to mention the criminal damage is enough for me to support arrests .

The political argument of who is behind XR and their objectives doesn't seem to get past the headline of ''its a climate emergency '' .

Maybe a few arrests would bring those in the background to the fore and all would see the real reason behind the rebellion which would then become extinct .

It was Thursday 25th July 2019 and I recorded 35.8C at 16:30 that day, so it's not outside the realms of possibilities that it was 38.7C (less than 3 degrees more) in some gardens in Eastern England.

My temperature was unofficial, their temperature recording equipment was checked by the relevant authorities and found to be correct.

I have experienced temperatures in the 40s and ridden a motorcycle when it is hot, it is very noticeable how temperatures change on a still day, you can feel the warmer and cooler pockets of air as you ride along, all within 100 yards or so.

What's it all got to do with eXtreme Rabble? There's lefties in the Uni that don't want to see their extreme left terrorist friends charged for destroying the green environment. Didn't Peter Hain get a South African cricket tour cancelled by digging up a cricket pitch? I'm sure he gotprosecuted for vriminal damage. Why on earth have Cambridge Police gone so soft?

I ride a bike also, not only can you feel the warm pockets of air but you can also smell if some one is smoking a 100yds in front. But yes, what his this got to do with the subject?
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

OK so the possible offence is criminal damage. Look it up and the answer is clear. If the owner is happy then no offence is committed. The test is to commit criminal damage you must intend to damage it, so say you lopped of a bit of the neighbour's hedge and made it look tidy then a defence of, "I though he would not mind, and might appreciate my work" is valid.

I dunno about your thermometer though. it's tricky to get a good reading. You need a Stevenson screen. I admit the temp was hotter in London than the SW, but it seemed to peak right slap in the middle of their garden, so lots of opportunity for press interviews. The interviews were totally biased bullshit as well.
