Russian military unit storing Putin's missiles bursts into flames after kamikaze drone attack


A Russian missile storage unit has exploded destroying a large number of weapons.

It is currently believed that the storage unit was blasted by kamikaze drones.


The depot, based near the city of Volgograd, was targeted earlier this week.

Footage shows the flames from the explosion at around 1am local time.


Flames in the darkness


It is currently believed than 600 people including at least three children were evacuated from military housing at the unit after the blast.

The depot in based in the village of Kotluban and is understood to be a missile and ammunition supply base.

It is also believed the weapons are used for Putin's war against Ukraine.

A nearby witness said: "Warehouses or a train loaded with shells exploded in a military unit."

A flame in the sky


Nearby residents said they heard a kamikaze drone before the unit went up in flames.

They added there was a fear of the fire spreading, with some residents fleeing their homes.

Volgograd region governor Andrei Bocharov said the cause of the fire was being probed.

It comes after the army site was previously attacked by Ukraine in September.


Andrei Bocharov said: "A fire occurred on the territory of one of the military units near the village of Kotluban. There were no casualties or damage to civilian facilities.

"The circumstances of the fire are being investigated."

An emergency ministry source said: "There were no casualties among the civilian population, there was no destruction of the village's infrastructure, and no evacuation was required."

Authorities later said that the inferno was brought under control and extinguished.
