Height markers are unnecessary with current CCTV in Britain where you saw them must be behind the times.

Actually I am 75 years old and the one who has learned nothing is you. A ruler is not needed to judge height. (It would only check height in that one fixed position.)  The latest CCTV cameras can determine height wherever they are sighted or pointing.

Abstract

As surveillance cameras are increasingly installed, their films are often submitted as evidence of crime, but very scant detailed information such as features and clothes is obtained due to the limited camera performance. Height, however, is relatively not significantly influenced by the camera performance. This paper studied the height measurement method using images from a CCTV. The information on the height was obtained via photogrammetry, including the reference points in the photographed area and the calculation of the relationship between a 3D space and a 2D image through linear and nonlinear calibration. Using this correlation, this paper suggested the height measurement method, which projects a 3D virtual ruler onto the image. This method has been proven to offer more stable values within the range of data convergence than those of other existing methods.

That is utter rubbish, CCTV does not use the skills people once used, they use a totally different system.

FFS, I do wonder about some people on this forum. The skills developed in judging height used by photographic analysis and snipers over last at least 100 years are incorporated into the CCTV and other cameras software.

No I didnt ,to be fair Snipers hiding in cash machines isn't something I can take seriously so gave it a miss .

Did you even bother to read the link I posted?  The software in CCTV cameras and the cameras with ATMs determines height it does not need a physical height chart. The skill that military photograph analysts and snipers used/use to determine height is now in the software in CCTV and other surveillance cameras.

No I didnt ,to be fair Snipers hiding in cash machines isn't something I can take seriously so gave it a miss .

At the moment we don't know if the height chart is unique to Canada  just that Nick is working in Canada at the moment and spotted one . Thats the lesser spotted height chart not the regular one seen in GP surgeries and strangely enough at the entrance to Chessington World of Adventures . To my knowledge  there has never been a height chart fixed  to a cash machine

Having seen the lousy pictures taken by our town's spanking new seven figure system of literally EVERY ethnic criminal 'caught' by it in Newport i'd say no, not really.

Here's one for a starter.

Working in Canada ATM and the supermarket have a height chart up the side of the door in case of shoplifters. They can give an accurate height description to the Police.

So do the CCTV cameras and the camera in an ATM. The height chart must he unique to Canada.
