We just want politicians who can be of help in this crisis.  The only way they can help is by making informed decisions based on the best evidence.  If there are some Labour politicians who could be of particular help - maybe doctors or biochemists, for example, they should be involved.

I think you have exposed the problem nicely.

In living memory (well, certainly in mine) I know the house counted among its members significant numbers of people from various real occupations. I suspect few actively maintained their former occupation but the past expertise was there.

Today you do a level political studies take a degree in political studies become an unpaid lackey of an MP then wait for the big break, a nomination on a seat you might win if the people hate the other candidates enough.

They might have some scientists in the house of lords who I respect for their record as scientists but I don't know any in the commons now.

involved in what?

If there are labour mps who are also doctors in england , then surely they would be of much more use in the nhs in your country rather than standing giving another useless interview on tv about what your government is or isnt doing.

Theres only one in scotland , and he can barely tie his shoelaces never mind anything else.

I dont think theres much more the scottish or english government can do as it stands regarding the virus except to offer all the help they can to both health services in terms of finances.

I have not bothered listening to a word labour said for some time.

You me and the rest of the world john. This really is labours problem in a nutshell.......they are so out of touch and out of relevance to the majority that no one is listening to a single thing they say.

Finishing fourth in scotland , and receiving among its lowest share of the vote in a century , losing northern english constituencies to the conservatives and welsh wrexham.

This isnt a one off blip in one or two elections.......this has been years in the making.

As they say it takes years to build up a reputation and seconds to lose it. I see nothing new and progressive in their party , or whats left of it , just more blairite clones or seventies dinosaurs.

The political insignificance of their c list team of hopefulls is shocking to behold.

The final nail in their coffin came when all but a handful of the 2017 election hopefuls stood on a central office, or round here Welsh Labour issued manifesto pledging to respect the 2016 referendum.

Because the fact is almost 6000 people stood for that election just as I did in 2010.

And among those were a whole range of sentiments on the referendum. From tear it up and snog Junkers and Verhofstadt all the way to Nuke the bar stewards and go now.

And the people chose neither of those extremes but went for the people who promised to respect the referendum result.

And as soon as they got back, they proceeded to do the very opposite, plotting ways to throw the voucebofvtbe people into the gutter.

I have no interest in any of them or anything they have to say.

They must be exterminated from political life to teach them the lesson that all who initiate a coup and then fail to succeed in it learn. Thatvtbe bestbyiu can expect after your behaviour is the pain inflicted by the manner chosen for your execution ends quickly...

Did you see the Labour hopefuls on Preston? Angela Rayner did nothing to carp and whine. If this is a national emergency with all politicians working together, do you really trust this immature sniping crew? Thank God Parliament is in recess. Let the government and its advisers get on with the job...
