Pat's right, over quite a long period when travelling to France 10 FF to £1 was a good ball park figure. It didn't make France cheap, except for duty free wines and beers. Neither was it very expensive.

Of course, the Euro buys more in Greece than Spain, and more in Spain than France, so the Euro isn't really worth the same in all the countries.

All I can remember was there were FRF10 to £1. Then when the euro appeared 1€ was 66p...

Anyone got any data, or anecdotal evidence of the cost of living in France pre 1998?  I know the French franc was at roughly 6.5 to the Euro then and I'm just trying to work out which way the cost of living in France has gone since joining the EZ.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
