Yes, but you said software.

Here we go again. FFS.  I do not wish to write a novel everytime I post.

It is bleeding obvious you need hardware for the software to be there.

Hardwear in fabrics is fact of life now.

Arirang TV, (South Korea), did a long program about it in their regular business/technology spot months ago.

I put it expecting people to know that if hardware can be put in software is a given.

Yes, but you said software.

I am aware, being an applications developer, but the way you put it was as if software can be put into the fabric.

If the hardware can be put in clothes the software can be as well.

Software installed in my clothes?

I don't own a car.

Who assumed there's a conspiracy?  The assumption would be that there are no conspiracies.

There was an episode of The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers where the US Drug Agency install a device in Fat Freddie's trousers that can smell marijuana. So all the agents are sitting around the receiver hoping to catch a whiff of Mary Jane and bust our hero as a result, except that Fat Freddie goes out for a Mexican dinner instead and lets out a tremendous.....

God, we had real literature in those days.

How do you know that such software is not already on your phone secretly and/or implanted in your car, your clothes etc.

If you want to assume everything is a conspiracy you can then just assume whatever you like.

Have you heard of manufactured consent?

How do you know that 'uninstalling' it would stop every part of it working?

Generally the source code of these devices is reverse engineered by hacker groups who will sound the alert if they are doing something untoward, and the danger is actually more in how secure the data is (and how well it's anonymised if required) once it's stored on central cloud servers.  Again, if you want to go for any random conspiracy theory you can assume these hacker groups are all plants by the government etc etc until you go mad.

In case of going mad, set sail into a dinghy from Liverpool and you will fall over the edge of the flat earth after a few miles :)

As far as I know, nobody is proposing that this app would be mandatory, and it's in any case difficult to make it mandatory as there is no law obliging people to carry a phone around at all times in the first place.

Also, if people are not happy with the app, they can always uninstall it at any time.

It's also been stated that the source code for the app will be made publicly available, and the data collected will be opened up to independent verification to make sure that it's deleted after the pandemic is over.

But I think it would be a useful tool in containing Covid-19...

It would also be a useful tool in helping along Covid-1984.  I've decided to switch off my bluetooth.  My yellow teeth are just fine.

I should have said could be a useful tool, as there would likely be the stupid, ignorant, or plainly malevolent clowns who's enter positive for the "fun" of it...

Such "big data" is extremely useful in emergency situations, and saves lives.
