"The damage to the economy will be worse than the pandemic itself." (false)

If you mean purely the money, I agree, but if you mean the lives lost due to the damage to the economy, we won't know the answer to that for many years, but it's not inevitable in my view.

I've come across various attitudes to the threat of covid-19, some of which were more prevalent in the early stages. These include.

"I don't understand all this fuss, more people die each year from flu."  (false for the vast majority of years)

"If I'm going to get it I'm going to get it". (true)

"It's only serious for old people." (false)

"What's going on now in China now could be happening to us in a few weeks time." (my own view in January - seems to be true)

"As long as we follow the government recommendations we'll be fine." (slightly true)

"Lockdown is driving me crazy, I need to get out." (selfish)

"People just don't realise how dangerous this virus is." (true)

"The damage to the economy will be worse than the pandemic itself." (false)

"If I combine my walk with buying some chocolate I can take it to my friend's and have a chat as that counts as grocery delivery." (sneaky)

I found this quite interesting about Spain and Portugal, where Spain has had 111 deaths per million and Spain has had 569.

Portugal is so far five times better at controlling the virus.

One factor is in Spain there are a significant number of family homes with several generations jammed together in one house.
