Unfortunately Dynamis, there are people on this forum who are TOTALLY blinkered and in denial about this and related issues.

Everytime I raise such issues I get a load of abuse and ridicule.

"However, many recently self-employed people will not be eligible. Others have fallen through the cracks in the furlough scheme; this includes thousands who had recently started new jobs and many furloughed hospitality workers who will not be compensated for the large part of their income that usually comes from tips."

I appreciate there are special cases where the welfare has been delayed but any parent who cant manage the household budget that sees the kids fed wants to have a good look in the mirror .

Having said that how have things changed for parents with disabled children ? (for example) . They would be getting the same benefits that they had before the  corona so how has the pandemic effected them to the extent that they are suddenly Hank Marvin  ?

The call comes after new research revealed almost a fifth of UK households with children have been going hungry over the past five weeks.

The Food Foundation found that with people across the UK losing their jobs and income due to the pandemic, affected households were seeing children having to skip meals.

While 30% of lone parents and 46% of parents with a disabled child are also facing food insecurity.

...

Earlier, the Trussell Trust reported an 81% spike in the number of emergency food parcels given out across the UK, including 122% more parcels going to children, compared to the same period in 2019.

The Independent Food Network also reported a 59% increase in demand between February and March, adding even more pressure on the UK Government.

Poor kids.

New Food Foundation survey finds three million Britons are going hungry just three weeks into lockdown

More than three million people1 (6%) in Great Britain have gone hungry since lockdown began three weeks ago, reporting that someone in their household has been unable to eat, despite being hungry, because they did not have enough food. This is our second poll since lockdown, and in this one we asked about experiences of food insecurity using standard questions.

Read the full press release and take a look at our data visualisations here.

A new YouGov poll commissioned by the Food Foundation and the FFCC (Food, Farming and Countryside Commission) found that 1.5 million1 (3%) have gone a whole day without eating since the lockdown came into effect, and 7.1 million1 (14%) say someone in their household has had to reduce or skip meals because they could not access or afford sufficient sustenance.

Of the 8.1 million1 people (16%) facing food insecurity, 21% didn't have enough money to buy adequate food supplies, 50% were unable to get the food they needed from the shops due to shortages and 25% were unable to leave their homes and had no other way to get the food they needed.

Just three weeks into the lockdown, more than three million1 (6%) have already had to borrow money or take out personal loans as a result of COVID-19, though this has not increased in the last 14 days. 2% of respondents, equivalent to more than one million1 people, said they've lost all of their income, but 43% of those who reported a drop in income think they are not entitled to help from the government.
