Coronavirus: Nine Chelsea Pensioners die with Covid-19, hospital says
Nemini parco qui vivit in orbe

I am a bit with you Barry. My neighbour has hung out a huge flag from his downpipe (?) and bunting all around his house. I don't know if he is having some sort of party, but a letter has gone around from the far end of the road asking us all to sit in our front gardens with a picnic this evening. I can't imagine anything worse. Solo meals are bad enough in private. I can understand the wish to remember those who fought for us and agree that we owe them a debt, but how we live and develop as a country is more important than partying in the street.  (Bah humbug!)

I think celebration is the wrong word.

Which word is correct, then?

Maybe I'm in a minority but I don't see much point in celebrating this 75 years later. So what?

After 5 years we defeated an enemy, that enemy no longer exists. We are now more integrated as Europeans than we ever were. My son works for a German pharma company and will they be putting up bunting and having fireworks?

Is it a celebration of freedom?

We celebrate that every day, don't we, in our lives? (Current restrictions excepted).

I won't be celebrating. Maybe I'm another Victor Meldrew, so be it.
