Just came across this on social media. If you need a guy for crisis management, Goves is your guy.

How is this guy in the cabinet? He even went for PM. At least he is comedy gold.

Both Myself and the Mrs had minor vision problems in the week or so after our infection of the corona and yes  mild conjunctivitis .  It was something that I would have reported as an after effect had I been asked .

The symptom trackers seem to focus on what to look out for as you develop the virus ,cough ,fever ect  not on the after effects .

People who "recover" from Covid-19 appear to be ending up with a wide range of short term and in some cases long term life changing effects.

Those are only just starting to come to light.

(Not related to Covid-19, but I woke after being bitten by what later proved to be a nasty, (now dead) spider in our mobile home in Brittany, and my vision went "pixellated" for over a day. I would not have dared to drive. I also had sub cutaneous haemoraging all the way around my right arm below the elbow.)

Apparently Cummings only intended to drive to the nearest supermarket to do some essential shopping but he found he couldn't focus on the road signs, lane markings or familiar London landmarks and ended up in County Durham.

Also - these last 2 days is the first I've heard of Covid-19 affecting eyesight in so many people - I've heard conjunctivitis but I think it's a pretty rare symptom and I can't find much data to support your actual eyesight being affected or if so, it's very rare.  None of the symptom trackers seem to refer to eyesight issues.

On that regard, it isn't that they are bad liars or not. It is they are being asked an indefensible position. That is as it is illegal to drive with poor eyesight, would you do it or is that part of the guidance? And you certainly wouldn't test your eyesight with your son who you are suppose to have wanted to keep safe. You can't BS that with any form of coherent answer.

Yes you are right, but I'm also referring to the original lie that started it i.e. I went for a 30 mile drive with my wife and small child to check that my eyes are working ok.

My point is, he had days (actually weeks because his previous actions indicate that he was already worried about this becoming a story) to come up with a story to justify his actions, and this was really the best he could come up with?

Even if, by some weird stretch, the story is true and he has some kind of OCD mental thing about driving with bad eyesight, as such a communications genius surely he would realise that he could not tell the truth about that because it sounds so much like a lie.

Also - I saw various assertions yesterday that his wife can drive perfectly well.

You need to keep up :)

This is yet another lie.

Really? You mean Boris is a liar, I already knew that:-

The prime minister has said he was 'having to wear glasses for the first time in years' after suffering coronavirus. Boris Johnson told today's Downing Street press conference: 'I'm finding that I have to wear spectacles for the first time in years – because I think of the likely effects of this thing – so I'm inclined to think there's some ... I think that's very, very plausible that eyesight can be a problem associated with coronavirus.'

Yes it is all over the internet. (Apparently Boris had had to start wearing glasses since he had Covid-19.)

This is yet another lie.  He said that last night with his dramatic prop, but, he was on record years ago as saying he is blind as a bat and wears glasses.

These people are so used to being able to blatantly lie with no negative consequence that they do it right into camera on TV in front of the whole country, even when they will be found out for sure.

The weird thing is not that they are liars, but they are really really bad liars.  Still - I guess some of us could see that all  along - it's just that the things they were telling lies about were boring complicated stuff that many people don't want to take the trouble to understand.  Now their lies are about simple stuff that everybody can get it's not quite the same.

Indeed. I am wondering whether the DVLA will look into this as he has admitted driving whilst visually impaired.

Anyway have you seen this?

How much can one get away with such disregard to traffic law?

I suspect a lot of Tory ministers are going to be contacted by the DVLA and have their driving licences removed until they have a proper eyesight test.

Nalaar

He was almost able to get through the sentence without laughing...the contempt the current government is showing towards anyone with a legitimate concern about the actions of an advisor is dumbfounding.

The Tory BS train seems to be struggling to maintain rationality. Was Goves about to say he too drives to test his eyesight? Either way, stuttering to retain the narrative seems to be the way forward as you cannot justify idiocracy.
