We've saved a lot and had about 3,500 refunds from holidays. We've bought a new laptop, a new phone, a new weather station as the 4 year old one gave up the ghost. Oh, and a new pizza/BBQ oven.

But we haven't quite spent 1,000 of that refund. So we sent some to ERNIE.

Some one else on the forum wondered what his wife had been spending £1200 a month on before the lock-down that isn't being spent now.

Unfortunately for myself and my wife just after the lock-down we had an outbreak of domestic appliances dying of old age.

I know that other posters have mentioned this before but it still amazes me.

I am a cheap sod and live off a couple of pensions that barely total 14,000 pounds. Most everything has been paid off so this has never been a problem and I rarely have to dip into my  savings.

But since the lockdown started my savings have actually increased. I can't eat out or even go into a coffee shop. The museums, pubs and cinemas are all shut. I don't even have to put anything on the collection plate because the churches have closed. Overall, it is very hard to spend money.

So its looks as though this flu has its plus side.  :D
