I think it is certainly looking like it.
<t>In matters of taxation, Lord Clyde\'s summing up in the 1929 case Inland Revenue v Ayrshire Pullman Services is worth a glance.</t>

I saw this elsewhere so nicked it:

Apple - We will make a free track and trace system.
Google - We will help, then it will works across 99 percent of phones. Should be ready by May.
UK govt - No, We'll make our own version.
Apple and Google - You'd need our help.
Uk govt. - No we don't, Dom's mate says he can do it.
Apple and Google - Off you go then.
Dom's mate - Can I have your propriety code.
Apple and Google - Hahahaha. No.
Dom's mate - Why not?
Apple and Google - Because your system breaches international privacy laws by ripping peoples contact data and storing it on your servers so you can use or sell it later.
Public - It does?  that!
Hancock - Our world beating system is up and running, at a cost of only £120,000,000
NHS - No it's not.
Hancock - We have hit a snag.
Public - Whats that?
Hancock - It doesn't work on iPhones. Or Android. And nobody wants to download it.
Whole world - Really...?

The fact that the government's app would not work properly with Iphones was already discussed and known by many tech experts even before the public test started.  The testing revealed exactly what many experts predicted would happen.  The government was fooled and conned into giving millions to a company which I think I remember reading is run by one of Dominic Cummings mates.

The government has known for many weeks that this app doesn't work - they sat on the information, presumably to avoid too many incompetent U-turns in the same week and spread them out over time.

If course they could have done the right thing and switched directions straight away, but in their minds that would mean losing face.

The BS about the distance tracking is also just face saving as well.

The government also relies on the idea that most people don't remember what was on the news yesterday let alone 2 months ago - if you go back and look at what was said in the press conferences a couple of months back it's not hard to figure out that Hancock is telling lies.

There is another form of corruption in this. The corruption of truth. If we are to reduce COVID to near zero, we must be able to track and trace, you need this to know where it is. Without that knowledge it will constantly have to flare before being confronted. It would appear now that not only is £250 million down the drain, but the need for a suitable system has been abandoned. If they really want this thing closed right down, then that corrupts the truth because we know ,they know, a workable track and trace system is needed. If this was not the case ,why waste £250 million finding out we didn't?

And will they make it the law that people install this software on their own phones?
No, thought not.

My understanding is the tracking part of the app is baked into the OS.

In fact I believe the API went live in the last update so your phone probably has the tracking data now.

The app is simply the front end that plugs into that capability. One app per country is allowed in the store to access it.  This is the interface that downloads the database of "infected" tags and notified you if any match the ones your phone is already storing

Which is the whole point of the GAppple solution, adoption is much higher.

One things for sure it didn't turn out to be world class. Once they realised how hard attaining world class is they gave up. Talk about egg on the face. This was more like pissing into wind . This sort of thing is making the whole nation look sad.

Quite. It also looks as if the South Korean Track and Trace is even better than the Japanese one:-

Yup, with commensurate improvements in their reduction of COVID.

China is going through the second wave now.

The fact it's cost £250 million of taxpayers money on a useless app developed in nepotism is what's important not whether or not it be made compulsory on the populations phone.
Energy....secure and affordable, not that hard is it?

I can't  determine whether it's corruption leading to ineptitude, or ineptitude leading to corruption, either way even Tory, nerves should be jangling.
