That 2,000,000 figure is in its self tending to mislead , because  there are millions more that are marginals ,in particular those with quiet serious heart problems ,and unable to walk  800 metres without feeling the need for a short break. Living on pills, yet not included in the two million.

The original government figure given out for shielding was 1.5 million, I though straight away that was way to low.  Then the government practically with no-one noticing put that up to 2.5 million.
Given the specifications for being in the shielded group, in my opinion, given the data for number of people with one or several of the factors for shielding even that 2.5 million was low as well. (It also includes young and middle ages people.)

Most of the 2,000,000 in the medical high risk letter sent from Doctor group are not working.
Let them stay home if they want to whilst everyone else gets their freedom. By my calculation about 1 in a thousand people have the virus.

Barry have you some stats for that please, because locally to me there a fair number of people on shielding and some of those are in their late 20s due to pre-existing conditions and/or on long term medication that make them vulnerable.

We are at the point where the economy needs to get going. The best has been done to protect the NHS and people, now we need to protect the economy.

I think that's fair enough. For someone like me it is impossible to stop the world until there is a cure. However I do have concerns for family members. It's the not knowing what their illness would be like which is the worry. If it was possible that now it is just a heavy cold then great.  We still need to know numbers over the next months.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

I got similar, but nothing from my GP. One from my GP is the only one that matters to me.
Yes I agree, my wife who is on immune suppressant drugs has had some good conversations with our GP,their advice I trust now looking at what Boris says who do I think is correct? Thinks for nanosecond and decides medical training, hospital doctor and many years a GP......yes its not Boris so carry on shielding.
Energy....secure and affordable, not that hard is it?

Yer, the ONS big chief said 4,000 a day on TV at the weekend, so  which one is it? Two days to find 700.
Thanks for that Barry, the best one I have seen up to now.

The Pinocchio figure is from the few tests carried out per day.  The ONS is more accurate because is for the entire population. (Bojo The Clown quoted the ONS figure after the testing data.

Yes, PS and T00ts, keep watching this website:
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public
Which reported 874 positive tests and 171 deaths yesterday

I look at that website everyday anyway.

But the ONS figure quoted by Boris today  is still 33000 infections a week or 4700 a day.

To see how many have died in your area go here:
https://www.ons.gov.uk/visualisations/dvc811/msoamap/index.html?from=timeline

Thank you I have bookmarked both sites you have quoted. According to the numbers in my area there is plenty of scope for a mini epidemic. Comforting!    :(

I've just seen a headline that BJ is scrapping the daily covid update. Does that also mean that there will no longer be nationwide figures reported or will they still be available?  Are they expecting us to socialise blind?

It certainly gives the impression the present situation is no longer worth giving to much time to. I think it is now a case of.  There are risks but get on with it . As for the figures involved ,they have been presented in an unsatisfactory manner throughout. To this day we don't know the true figures for a number of important factors.

All that mean is the duty Pinocchio will not be holding a televised briefing every day, the data will still be publish.
