Thanks for the explanations — though I can't say I understand.

Strangely, when I try to copy one and reproduce it here the crossing-out disappears...

Looking at that post it seems they tried to say "party(s)" but used the square bracket causing the strikeout.

I think those are from posts before the forum move, so any threads with older posts will show striked-out text

Maybe because people sometimes hit the wrong formatting and hit the s when they mean to hit the u and underline something.

In the interest of trying to boost the post count — can anyone explain why some posts have portions of their text crossed out? I've tried to work out a rationale (well, I've spent a couple of minutes wondering), but I cannot see a common factor at play...
