My problem is the high cost of masks that are any use.

And if the heat is on ,just getting masks of any quality will become another big problem I dare say.

All of this controversy only shows how political so called scientific opinion is. Who would have thought a virus particle  as small as Covid , would remain airborne for far more than a few seconds.? :(
One could always make an argument as to how masks are used ,and how to reduce their effectiveness.
The argument they don't help in any way , was only ever made to suit  the politics of that moment. Masks always had the potential to help lower the impact of Covid , as with all transmissible infections that in the main transmit  via mouth and nose.

It seems there is more evidence that masks also afford the wearer some protection according to a new study commissioned by the World Health Organization. Could it be that this is what's altering the normally assertive reaction against authority's instructions where health is concerned...?

No it ain't. It is evidence that Saddo Khan has issued instructions that before they get on buses passengers have to wear masks before they are allowed on. Got to any London bus stop and the only people wearing masks are foreigners being polite and the usual hypochondriacs desperate to look even sillier than usual. But when the bus actually arrives everyone puts on a mask because no one wants to make the driver's job any harder than it is.

Boris Johnson has said the Government is looking at introducing stricter rules on wearing face coverings in shops and other confined spaces.
Fresh data from the Office for National Statistics indicated that 52 per cent of adults in Britain had worn a face covering when leaving their home in the final week of June, up from 43 per cent on the week before.
Regardless of whether they had worn a face covering previously, 58 per cent of the 1,788 adults quizzed between July 2-5 said they were very or fairly likely to wear one in the next seven days.
