No self-respecting socialist would be seen dead in a Wetherspoons.
Difficult choice — pay the prices other capitalist pubs charge, or go to Tim Martin's establishments, pay more reasonable prices, and sometimes support local small brewers. I guess it's between Beer Marques and Marx...

I must remind my daughter and her Socialist Worker Party friends of that the next time that go to the Metropolitan Bar in the the Marylebone Road and proceed to drink their way through my pension.

We are not all in the same boat. We are in the same storm. Some of us have yachts. Some of us have canoes. Some of us are drowning.

That doesn't stop him being  a bad employer.

According to this pappy , wethrspoons have been among the top uk employers for the last 15 years  , and won top spot in 2018.

QuoteTop Employer UK 2018
It is the 15th consecutive year that Wetherspoon has been certified by the Top Employers Institute, the independent organisation behind the Top Employers project, for its exceptional employee offerings.

QuoteThe Top Employers Institute's chief executive officer, David Pink, said: "Our comprehensive research concluded that Wetherspoon provides an outstanding employment environment and offers a wide range of creative initiatives, from secondary benefits and working conditions to performance-management programmes – a range which is well thought out and truly aligned with the culture of the company."

Wetherspoon's commercial, legal and personnel director, Su Cacioppo, said: "We are extremely proud to be named as a Top Employer UK 2018.

"The recognition comes from an independent organisation which researches numerous companies; so, it is very pleasing that we are considered to be among the best across the UK.

"Wetherspoon employs more than 37,000 staff across its pubs and head office.

"We are committed to offering each and every one the best opportunity to succeed and grow with the company.

"This is evident in the number of staff who have risen through the ranks at Wetherspoon."

That doesn't stop him being an idiot or a bad employer.

Who gives a feck?

Thats the uk officially in recession for the first time in 11 years due to your chinese sniffles. I bet the wetherspoons employees will be glad to have their jobs and hope they retain them through these difficult times.

You know , people that have to go to work and dont have your advantages of sitting at home moaning about the world mortgage free on a pension.

Can't be that much of an idiot, he's got 900 pubs and bars which probably puts him at No4 behind Ei with approx 38,000, Mitchells & Butlers (approx 1600) and Admiral (approx 950)...

Sheepy

Well speaking of stealing the future, today is the day when the media will pump as much damage limitation as possible before the crunch tomorrow. Then they will be all over it like rash.
Just because I don't say anything, it doesn't mean I haven't noticed!

It's all become a bit personal now, to no one's better understanding.

On a brighter note, at least the f**king pubs are open now. That first pint went down like it was on rails  :)
well the pubs might be open for a minute or two, although I was in London last night and not all of them were, but don't get excited Ms Krankie who is leading within true fascist fashion, don't like the pubs open, so look out.

Some things I wouldn't choose, admittedly, but it looks like your preconceptions and prejudices are showing.
It's not likely (posts me, stereotyping) the cook votes Tory...

Just checked the online menu for the nearest 'Spoons to me. No food, but things to eat, but nothing that I would.

I'll check the online menu as I just noticed the app on my phone...

Not cordon bleu, but looks OK to me, though I notice the steaks have gone

Wetherspoons gives plenty of local and small brewers an outlet, so guess that gains it some Camra brownie points. Not been inside any pub or restaurant for months, but those W's I used before served well kept beer at reasonable prices. Work colleagues also reckoned the food was reasonable priced and uniformly acceptable when out and about. The kids liked it too — and it's better than McDonalds, KFC or Pizza Hut.
But they did vary with staff changes, though hopefully clearing and cleaning will be a priority from now on.
As for the stolen pubbing and clubbing future, who knows. We won't be going inside any hostelry for some time yet...

The other problem is Wetherspoons stopped serving food. (They sell something to eat but it isn't food.)
