That itself sounds very socialist, lol.

QuoteI would dispute that he didn't want any of us to earn so that it could trickle down! Only by making an excess are we in a position to aid others.
The trouble is, trickle down has never really worked. Instead wealth tends to congregate in the hands of a few at the top. Trickle up more like. Am sure he would have expected us to earn and give generously - which would include not begrudging paying our taxes for the common good - but everything about him suggests he would not have approved of excessive greed amidst so much hardship in the world.

I am in the midst of filling a skip but have been giving this thread a bit of thought as I heaved stuff in. I am now fairly exhausted for today but luckily I have another 10 days to complete the task. My neighbours are also eyeing it no doubt wondering if there will be any room left. I try to load skips tidily where possible so there might be.

Anyway I'm sure you know this but it's nice to have a chance to confirm. No matter how far back we go in the scriptures/ancient writings the coming of Christ/the Son of God/Messiah has always been foretold. There are references to the signs to expect on His arrival, on His death and even on His 2nd coming. I have no doubt that those predictions were fulfilled and continue to be so, but there has always been a refusal to believe, scepticism and those who simply don't care. He came as I believe, to fulfil a promise that we will all gain resurrection and eternal life. We all have the chance to live with Him in Glory for ever, but for those who have varying degrees of faith there are 'many mansions'  where we will happily live for Eternity. For those who really don't want to know, never repent of really awful deeds, are totally impure and break all the rules - well the argument goes why would they want to live in God's house anyway? So they have accommodation laid on by the other guy who probably dominated their lives anyway and is very well known to them.

Now a socialist hippy is another question altogether. Utopia, not to be mixed up with Eutopia, is a perfect state of being in the sense that we are all provided for the same. We came with nothing and will leave the same way but more importantly for me, we need to recognise that rich or poor we are at the mercy of God the Father, because it can all be removed in a flash. Therefore to recognise with gratitude all the things we do have is really important and we should use it wisely.

The famous mushroom system, keep them in the dark and poo on them once a week.

We are not all in the same boat. We are in the same storm. Some of us have yachts. Some of us have canoes. Some of us are drowning.

Supposedly it was easier to shove a camel through the eye of a needle.

There are plenty of "Camel Shovers" about these days.

Was Jesus some kind of ancient socialist hippy? I suppose this question presupposes that he actually existed. Some might think not.

I tend to think he existed but was just an exceptionally enlightened dude and not the son of god or any of that bollocks.

But taking him at face value. He grew angry at the money lenders and stated that it was extremely difficult for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Supposedly it was easier to shove a camel through the eye of a needle.

Sounds like a socialist to me, lol.

He was also surely one of those damned non-judgemental, live and let live types, who allowed his feet to be annointed by prostitutes, hung out with lepers, and prevented a stoning of an adulteress by making those about to indulge reflect on their own misdeeds. The right would surely attack him as some kind of liberal do-gooder were he alive today, lol.

And preaching peace and telling people to love their neighbours sounds like an ancient version of some hippy preaching "peace, man!"

Jesus, the peace-loving hippy socialist. What do you reckon? Lmfao.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D When I can stop giggling I'll come back with an answer, but in the meantime Son of God or not his whole message was one of equality, of giving to those in need, of sharing whatever one has, although I would dispute that he didn't want any of us to earn so that it could trickle down! Only by making an excess are we in a position to aid others.

Does that make Him a hippy? I expect Him to return to sort that one out for good and always. You might be surprised!
