It's called fact, and you refuse to acknowledge it. Regardless of whether you believe it or not some people are taking the piss. They choose the trappings that they can't afford and then use food banks, but you refuse to accept that a single person does this, well you're wrong.

If I had my way it would be like China where if you don't get up and earn enough to eat then tough. Socialism states you help those who can't help them selves, not those that can't be bothered.

It would appear to be a fact that you are callous and right wing you have proven that with your response.

Right the usual far right callous people have had their say.

Suggested reading but they won't bother, they prefer to remain in ignorance:-

Actually, I not only knew you'd drag something like that up, I beat you to it. I've read that. BEFORE you posted about it.

The whole point of my demand for a definition was to expose the language in the opening post, deliberately chosen to suggest the streets of Britain will be filled with kids looking like biafrans, when the reality is, the parents on the sink estate up the road who've never done a day's work in their lives, are hacked of that they can't use the adsda school vouchers to top up their Iphone 11's.

Now if you want a PROPER discussion of how the end of october ahd the closure of the furlough scheme will mean me having to find a new job or retire early and how Santa Clause WILL be on the dole this year yet again because we allow all and sundry into the country regardless of the pox rthey are carrying... then let's have it.

Had this country adopted proper test and incarcerate measures with strict border lockdown we would not be in the shit we are now. And that's what matters.

Depends on location — eg, in the UK the bar is set at those whose earnings and benefits don't allow smart phone and smart TV ownership/rental with Sky contracts. There are also individual areas where Trussell Trust franchised outlets are anxious to attract clients and others that are inundated with claims...
On climate change — we're talking, we're beginning to act, but we're still not doing enough...

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

What is Extreme Poverty ? Define that first please.

Can't pay the bills you have to pay unless you don't eat.

This is poverty, they would love to choose not to pay their bills.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Perhaps some people should be proactive and try to fix aspects of their life instead of constantly turning to the government for answers.

Whenever I drive through a rundown and boarded up part of the UK, I always see that the bookies and off-licence are still going strong. This is a society issue not a government failure issue. The likes of Brighthouse, phone shops that facilitate the poorer in society to have 65" TV's, the latest iPhone and full SKY package. We need to get back to the point where people buy what they have and not constantly on credit. As for this rubbish about a qualified nurse going to food banks, a staff nurse earns £35K, and they can't afford to eat? Well I would suggest they prioritise their spending.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

This is wholly avoidable, but for a fully inept govt, entrenched in its callousness.

Good old

In the present circumstances it could prove inevitable.  If Covid drives high unemployment , and it already does, poverty levels will escalate .  Any levels of subsistence could be questioned, but the poverty will still exist.

QuoteBritain's largest food bank network has warned that UK destitution rates will double by Christmas alongside an explosion in demand for charity food parcels, as coronavirus job and income support schemes are wound down.

The Trussell Trust predicts that at least 670,000 extra people will become destitute in the last three months of the year – a level of poverty that leaves them unable to meet basic food, shelter or clothing needs – if the government withdraws Covid support for low-income households.

Despite unprecedented demand for charity food since lockdown – 100,000 people used food banks for the first time between April and June – the trust said ending furlough in October would trigger a rise in food bank use of at least 61% – equivalent to a year-on-year increase of 300,000 parcels.

"Our research finds that Covid-19 has led to tens of thousands of new people needing to use a food bank for the first time. This is not right. If we don't take action now, there will be further catastrophic rises in poverty in the future," said Emma Revie, the chief executive of the Trussell Trust.

The trust said the impact of rising unemployment on low-income families after the planned winding down of the job retention scheme raised the prospect of a significant "reshaping of the landscape of poverty, destitution and food insecurity in this country".

Without feeding the troll, what the answer then General? What do you suggest should be done?

I would very surprised if it only doubles. (Given what is backed up in the system.)
