Most of all, the north needs revitalizing and the grossly unfair over concentration of both wealth and power in London and the SE need to be better spread out through the country.

Anyway, that's just for starters, I'm so tired out right now I can barely think.  :D

The concentration of wealth and power has always been around london since year dot in England.

After the best part of a thousand years , why do you think this is going to change?

We hear about "revitalising the north "( of england) every election from memory , and it never happens. Thats under both labour and tory , brit left right and centre.

You have to ask yourself why this is.

This is wholly avoidable, but for a fully inept govt, entrenched in its callousness.

What is Extreme Poverty ? Define that first please.

Extreme poverty is when tubby pensioners such as Pappy and myself start to lose weight. I don't know how it stands with the Cornish Chuckler, but it isn't happening with me.

;D

lol.

No I work for my self, never had a penny from the state and never will.

You could suffer a life changing disaster at any moment leaving needing the welfare state. (You have benefitted from the welfare state since the day you were conceived.)

How do you know what I've benefited from or need in the future. Typical post where you state facts according to the world of Smurf.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Had this country adopted proper test and incarcerate measures with strict border lockdown we would not be in the shit we are now. And that's what matters.

👍👏

Most of all, we need preventative measures as you allude, to either prevent the situation getting worse or to very gradually, incrementally improve things.

QuoteBritain's largest food bank network has warned that UK destitution rates will double by Christmas alongside an explosion in demand for charity food parcels, as coronavirus job and income support schemes are wound down.

The Trussell Trust predicts that at least 670,000 extra people will become destitute in the last three months of the year – a level of poverty that leaves them unable to meet basic food, shelter or clothing needs – if the government withdraws Covid support for low-income households.

Despite unprecedented demand for charity food since lockdown – 100,000 people used food banks for the first time between April and June – the trust said ending furlough in October would trigger a rise in food bank use of at least 61% – equivalent to a year-on-year increase of 300,000 parcels.

"Our research finds that Covid-19 has led to tens of thousands of new people needing to use a food bank for the first time. This is not right. If we don't take action now, there will be further catastrophic rises in poverty in the future," said Emma Revie, the chief executive of the Trussell Trust.

The trust said the impact of rising unemployment on low-income families after the planned winding down of the job retention scheme raised the prospect of a significant "reshaping of the landscape of poverty, destitution and food insecurity in this country".

Without feeding the troll, what the answer then General? What do you suggest should be done?

Well, one of the things that people always tell me about the good old days is trades + apprenticeships and an abundance of well paid jobs (public and private), also us making things in this country.

I really detest Trump, but trying to make things in America is one of his better policies, we have to do something about that to actually make it happen.

That's probably one of the firstmost key things in any modern Cappie society, if you want it to work for the majority...

I don't think Labour old or new or the Tories old put any real concerted effort into changing that.

Well possibly Pappy, but look at it this way, if adverse comments make you hop up and down with rage, think what a plus that will be for your diet plan.

I don't have a diet plan, when all the gurt porker Tories follow their own advice I might think about it.
(I have according to my annual "fill this." "What from here?" armful blood removed for tests,) last Friday lost five kilos in a year.)

It is a total waste of time discussing a serious subject in this forum because the idiots come out in force.

What it shows is that I'm a realist and understand how the world works. You on the other hand are clearly stuck in Smurfland and swallow every sob story going.

You like nearly everyone else is only one life changing incident away from needing the welfare state.

I know how dire a state millions of people are in, you are blissfully ignorant of that and prefer to stay that way.

It's called fact, and you refuse to acknowledge it. Regardless of whether you believe it or not some people are taking the piss. They choose the trappings that they can't afford and then use food banks, but you refuse to accept that a single person does this, well you're wrong.

If I had my way it would be like China where if you don't get up and earn enough to eat then tough. Socialism states you help those who can't help them selves, not those that can't be bothered.

It would appear to be a fact that you are callous and right wing you have proven that with your response.

What it shows is that I'm a realist and understand how the world works. You on the other hand are clearly stuck in Smurfland and swallow every sob story going.

The whole point of my demand for a definition was to expose the language in the opening post, deliberately chosen to suggest the streets of Britain will be filled with kids looking like biafrans,

Frankly if the government does nothing to address it's hostile environment towards poor and vulnerable people I would not rule that out.
