Are you sure about that? Not much appears to have happened on the forum in the last few weeks, I was expected a mass of comments to read.
A lot of news and developments with no mention at all.

You can turn it off yourself.
Click on Profile
Hover on Modify profile
A drop box appears - at the bottom of the list it says 'snowflakes'
Click on it and you can disable it there - remember to click 'change profile' to save.
