Main points

This report presents the first analysis of disability pay gaps in the UK using newly reweighted earnings data from the Annual Population Survey.

Median pay was consistently higher for non-disabled employees than for disabled employees; in 2018, median pay for non-disabled employees was £12.11 an hour whilst for disabled employees it was £10.63 an hour, resulting in a pay gap of 12.2%.

The disability pay gap was wider for men than for women.

In 2018, London had the widest disability pay gap at 15.3% and the narrowest pay gap was in Scotland, at 8.3%.

Disabled employees with a mental impairment had the largest pay gap at 18.6%, while for those with a physical impairment the pay gap was 9.7% and those with other impairments had the narrowest gap, at 7.4%.

Around a quarter of the difference in mean pay can be accounted for by factors such as occupation and qualification.

4.

Nearly one in five of the UK population aged 16 to 64 years was disabled

Using the Government Statistical Service (GSS) harmonised definition of disability, 18.9% of people aged 16 to 64 years were disabled in 2018. Women were more likely to be disabled than men, at 21.1% and 16.6%, respectively.

I think that you are right on that Ollie. But I think that we should cut wiggles some slack.

Know what I think you are a wind up merchant just here not to debate but annoy as has been previously experienced elsewhere.

I think that you are right on that Ollie. But I think that we should cut wiggles some slack. Polite posters who are respectful of each others' opinions make for arse numbingly dull forums. That said, maybe wiggles should stick to his script. He used to be an English nationalist but a couple of posts ago he said that he was a foreigner.

There is no excuse being fat. I accept people put on a bit of weight as they get older, but the correct diet will control weight. Unfortunately, where I live attracts northerners, and as you probably know, northerners have very little self discipline, and that's why they eat more and smoke more than normal people. If they don't eat themselves into a wheel chair, no doubt the fags will do it. Never mind, the tax payer will make sure they are OK, they normally do !

I should imagine that you'd like to extend your voluntary euthanasia idea as well so that you can "persuade" disabled  people to take part in it. Hitler had a similar idea.

Do you realise that every time you speak in generalisations it just shows your ignorance.

All people put on weight as they get older.

Northerners have no self discipline

Northerners eat more and smoke more than "normal" people.

Therefore Northerners are not normal people?

You're just having a laugh and playing the serious posters here, aren't you? It's just a bit of fun for you, but for other people, (with your ridiculous stereotyping and prejudices), it is YOU that are the joke.

He put you in your place alright. Suffice it to say, he was not rude, he posted an eloquent and knowledgeable piece about disabilities and benefits. He obviously knows more than you about the subject.

Oh, it's fat people you have a problem with, is it? The day might be coming when arthritis or some illness  puts you into a mobility scooter, and then people can call you lazy or fat. I don't know why you have this attitude against people that have been less fortunate than you, in life.

That's your level of "humour" with the subject of disability, is it? If so, harr harr ruddy harr.  :thdwn:

What do you mean "put me in my place". He wasn't clever, he was just rude. I can be rude, I just choose not to be. I adamantly defend the disabled, and would fight for the right for them to be given work. The majority want to contribute towards society, and I appreciate it's only the minority who want to scrounge off of the state.

QuoteMy gripe has always been with those people who are not genuinely disabled, and manage to  con the services. I live 20 minutes from Skegness. During the holiday season the streets are full of northerners so fat they have eaten themselves into mobility scooters. Needless to say our society rewards people for over indulgence and personal neglect. There are those on this site who actually believe everyone claiming benefits are bona fide and hard done by. I would like to think most aren't that naive though

No you don't, all you do is abuse them and generally be VERY nasty, you also show a level of pig ignorance about the benefits system that frankly beggars belief.

I don't have a problem with the disabled at all, and really can not understand why you think otherwise. I accept that there are those who are genuinely disabled that get a bad deal, but also KNOW there are there those who are not disabled and rip off the tax payer. I am happy to socialise with any disabled person, as I am a foreigner, but refuse to give them any special treatment.

People like him annoy me intensely. They have absolutely no idea of the penalties of a disability and no idea of the hoops some people have to jump through to get a fair hearing and the welfare they are entitled to. They seem to think people stroll into the Jobcentre, say they are sick, unemployed or disabled and get income for life. It's the same with food banks. Some people seem to think  food banks are  some sort of free Tescos for the feckless.

I know what place I would like to put wiggles in. But I won't mention it here.

He is coming VERY close to disability hate crime territory.
