Just heard that Tim Brooke-Tailor has died due to the virus.

Very sad news as I was a huge Goodies fan, back in the day.

Nipper of the Yard

The detective Len 'Nipper' Read who put the Kray twins away has died at the age of 95 — 31 March 1925 to 7 April 2020.

Read was a Detective Superintendent in the Metropolitan Police and is widely credited for arresting Ronnie and Reggie Kray. Sadly, he's not as well known as the psychos he put away...

I am surprised given his hedonistic lifestyle he lasted as long as he did:-

He was known for his flamboyant style of dress and for having relationships with women he often referred to as his "wifelets".

Very sadly Mr Weatherall has died at the age of 56.

Mercenary 'Mad Mike' Hoare dies aged 100.

Frankly how he got to 100 years old without being assassinated is a mystery.

Michael "Mad Mike" Hoare, widely considered the world's best known mercenary, has died aged 100.

Born in India to Irish parents, he led campaigns in the Congo in the 1960s that earned him fame at the time, and a controversial legacy years later.

His career reached an embarrassing end in 1981, when he was jailed for leading a failed coup in the Seychelles.

Mr Hoare's son, Chris Hoare, said in a statement that his father died in a care facility in Durban, South Africa.

"Mike Hoare lived by the philosophy that you get more out of life by living dangerously, so it is all the more remarkable that he lived more than 100 years," he said.

Sir Michael Atiyah  22 April 1929 – 11 January 2019

This chap has been one of the most influential mathematicians of the 20th century.

QuoteAtiyah's mathematical collaborators included Raoul Bott, Friedrich Hirzebruch[9] and Isadore Singer, and his students included Graeme Segal, Nigel Hitchin and Simon Donaldson. Together with Hirzebruch, he laid the foundations for topological K-theory, an important tool in algebraic topology, which, informally speaking, describes ways in which spaces can be twisted. His best known result, the Atiyah–Singer index theorem, was proved with Singer in 1963 and is used in counting the number of independent solutions to differential equations. Some of his more recent work was inspired by theoretical physics, in particular instantons and monopoles, which are responsible for some subtle corrections in quantum field theory. He was awarded the Fields Medal in 1966 and the Abel Prize in 2004.

And this bit is from him as well.

QuoteThis business of constantly manufacturing thought crimes is part of the way that is being used to silence people who are conservative,

OK, the Conservative Party wants to run away from those people but in doing so, it is running away from its own voters.

The last bit is very prophetic, since they appeared to have gone for the voter rather than what the whingers want on the BBC, and it worked. He was subsequently reinstated.

Baron von Lotsov

QuoteI am a conservative thinker, well known as such, outspoken but reasonable in my view

QuoteAnd there has been throughout this country and throughout Europe, in my view, an attempt to silence the conservative voice. We get identified, caricatured and demonised and made to look like we are some kind of sinister fascist, racist kind of people.

As soon as the Conservative Party sees one of us being demonised in this way, they rush to disassociate themselves from us.
