Rioters are another subject . We would find it hard to make a list of 'peaceful protests ' that didn't attract the usual suspects/ anarchists  who turn up in the hope of a riot . The normal people as you put it who then challenge the vandalism are usually those who realise their protest is undermined by such acts .

The protest for freedom and democracy cant be halted because some idiot lobs a brick in the wrong direction and I would question which side is best served in HK by such actions . The pro democracy people  would loose international support if they were shown to be a mob as apposed to a movement .

because the conservative leadership have consistenly refused another referendum since 2014. While they had an argument after the loss in 2014 in the indy ref , when they reneged on promises and the snp won a landslide in 2015 , then the brexit ref , then the snp winning at the scot parliament and having majority scottish seats both in 2017 and 2019 shows they have more than enough of a mandate by now .

The tories have had more or leass the same policy on scot indy since the 2015 election as johnson is saiyng , now is not the time  can kicking down the road.

So im not sure why china is seen as anti democratic , but your country isnt?

If only history provided us with a clue as to what happens when democracy is denied eh cromwell?
