Do many consumers really care?

The fishermen and associated businesses care and that where I live is a significant number, enough to get the local Tory MP out at the next general election.

The can of sardines was certainly kicked down the pier with the fishing deal . Our fishermen  are certainly not over the moon about it though some are more realistic accepting that some of the catch had to be given away for access to EU markets . Im sure any transit problems will be sorted ,the Europeans want our fish as much as our fishermen need to sell it to them .

The Spanish are also up in arms ,the Galacian fleet have major concerns with the deal
https://www.memesita.com/xunta-sees-the-brexit-fishing-agreement-as-alarming-for-the-galician-fleet/

The French reaction was lukewarm with the realisation that the uncertainty of  what  deals will be made in the future could leave their boats high and dry

Oh and the Irish have come off worse of all . https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/irish-fishing-communities-will-be-disappointed-by-brexit-deal-taoiseach-says-1.4445321

And we mean it when we said we would be in control

For now the British guys get more of the catch  and the foreign guys (apart from the Irish  ) can still earn a good living, even the Spanish can still shop in Gibraltar even if they cant catch Sardines off Cornwall .

When the fog has lifted  and  all becomes clear the fishermen of the UK and Europe will still be catching fish ,the  people of Europe will be eating it and we in the UK will be buying Haddock and Cod off the Norwegian's   Union Flag

That is putting it mildly. Frankly I am glad I am still shielding.  I wouldn't dare talking to the local fishermen currently. They are VERY angry with "Boris The Betrayer."

Do many consumers really care? Boris says he's got back control — that's enough for most people.
Any effect of EU regulation on UK supermarket fish-counters probably went unnoticed by many shoppers. Large cod (or rock) and chips from the chippy, and tins of salmon and sardines is the nearest most come to seafood these days.
Smoked cod and haddock, or kippers are around, as is farmed salmon with (apparently incorrectly labelled) sea bass and sea bream also being pushed.
Some shops stock packets of smoked salmon and tubs of prawns and shrimps, and sometimes mussels, but are many of these actually fished from UK waters...?

PS: Mrs has discovered that Morrisons also now stocks pickled herrings in its eastern European section — these are even more sickly and sweet than the usual sweet cured roll mops it some times offers in the fish section.
On climate change — we're talking, we're beginning to act, but we're still not doing enough...

Are you still here, Gerry, lecturing us over Brexit? It's over mate, the fat lady sang. Stop worrying about us.  Union Flag

It's only just started Barry, day 6 and counting. Brexit wasn't about leaving. That was so easy, issue Art50 and sit back and your out, no questions asked. All though you did look for multiple extensions and  delayed the whole think.

But Brexit has only just started. I'm interested in where it settles, that might take another couple of yrs but it's just getting interesting, we get to see how predictions turn out. But it will take decades to really understand, a couple of yrs will give us the gist of things.

I'm not worried about you, your big boys with your big trousers on.

And it looks like you're on another fishing expedition, the fewer who take the bait the better..

I'd say best to ignore reality all together. Keep saying the sky hasn't fallen in yet, brexit has been done we are now sovereign again, no more political union--what ever that meant.

The market for UK fish is predominately in the EU, if brexit introduces barriers (delays, customs checks, paperwork...) and that, like a light switch could switch off the trade, it might not be a 20% barrier so 20% fall in business, that's not how it works.

But Boris said ignore the experts, lets label them as remoaner's. It worked, he got what he wanted.

As pappy has just outlined it looks worse if Johnson has betrayed the fishermen and let EU boats inside the restriction zone. At least with the delays that's what you voted for.

Energy....secure and affordable, not that hard is it?

Looks like fishing in a spot of bother, who would have guessed. But leave it to a details man, Johnson or Rabb or any one of those nitty pickey sorts to have all the wrinkles ironed out. Just remember you voted for this, own it. You would have had the ability to know exactly what was coming post brexit so don't think about falling into the trap of blaming the EU, which has been the scape goat for 40 yrs.

Delays while the UK is in lock-down and 60% less EU-UK transport doesn't bode well for when things get back to normal. One of the clips was revealing, a fisherman explains his haulier told him if the truck gets refused because of a problem with his paperwork then he (the fisherman) is responsible for the losses of the full container which could be 150k.

I suppose their just remoaners and we should all laugh and say "but the sky hasn't fallen in yet", just tell them to cop on and sell their fish to Japan. Their British fish, the best fish in the world.

Oh the Joys of brexit, and we have our (french designed & Polish made) blue passports, sunny uplands indeed !
