Not wishing to contaminate another thread, it does seem the blasphemy law has morphed a little into an unwritten law.

Now it is terrible to say anything detrimental about any religion and will result in the suspension of MPs and candidates.

Unless that religion is Christianity, when they might be cheered on by the secularists.

Doubt those who have died or currently live in fear because of their faith would agree:

So what? There have been far more people in the world than those examples. It only disproves my argument if i had said always. Are you another one who can't understand there is more to reality than a group of things having to be all one thing or all the other, like nothing but extremism exists?

People who go by the teachings of the bible rarely run into trouble, or if they do, they manage to come out of it OK.

I believe that in certain circumstances there is retribution in this life, although I fear it is simplistic to think it always happens as an act of God.

I don't but this particular case was different. It was something that none of them expected and it got the right person. People who go by the teachings of the bible rarely run into trouble, or if they do, they manage to come out of it OK.

I like to read biographies and i started to notice a kind of trend in that those who were the worst offenders, like those who did it live on TV in front of millions ended up in bad circumstances. A lot of these bad circumstances ended in death. It's like those who did likewise and promoted homosexuality to millions. There was one in particular I remember. There was that company behind Frankie goes to Hollywood, which was all about promoting homosexuality, and one day in the garden of the mansion they owned, the son was practising target shooting in the garden, and by some incredible fluke the bullet ended up in his mother's brain, and she was like a zombie after that and died a few years later. It was the mother's inherited wealth from a Jewish family that created the business in the first place. So they made a fortune and then the one above equalised them. It seems to me that you can't get away with it. You can fool the entire general public, the government, the investors and so on, but you wont last.

I believe that in certain circumstances there is retribution in this life, although I fear it is simplistic to think it always happens as an act of God. It is more likely the outcome of choices made and the circumstances thus created. In my belief our Father waits very patiently for repentance (the prodigal son) even until judgement. Add to that Jesus as our advocate before the Lord and all mitigating circumstances being heard. Even after physical death I believe we have opportunity to accept the Gospel and repent, otherwise the poor souls who have never had the chance to hear it in this earthly life would hardly be treated fairly.

It's not complicated at all. It has been a clear instruction for ever. We either choose to take heed or not. Our choice!

Leviticus 19:12

"And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD."

But you are not insisting your belief is to be forced on others by the force of law. The law in Northern Ireland and Scotland does. And even the rules of this forum say blasphemy is not allowable...

Then rules should be obeyed.  I don't see the problem.

What does any of that have to do with Blasphemy as described as an offence within England and Wales until 2008...?

The law was designed to keep the ruling priests in power by forbidding the application of logic to questioning religion.

Allowing people to challenge the skewed logic and belief would undermine the hold priests and their acolytes had over the population...

The law was designed to keep things decent, and for the same reasons as other censorship like violence. Some fail to understand the relevance because they were not brought up in a civilised environment in the first place.

Last Christmas I was forced to watch the television and it was vile. I dread to think with the hooligans who run it have on offer this year. I know it will be worse. Films are especially vile.

Get it into perspective. When these laws are lifted it means the ugly minds of TV producers will devise the most shocking and vile images their fiendish minds can muster to up the ratings in the lower depths of hell to try and lower it even more in a competition to the bottom of the sewer. This is the sort of thing they will most be tempted to do at Christmas.

So blessed are the Scottish and the Northern Irish that they have at least some defence against it. You see laws were always made for a reason, like the law which prevented lawyers from advertising, or for that matter, betting shops.

Anyhow, put it this way, if the satanic TV producers manage to destroy the church then what do they offer. I mean is blood and guts enjoyable? Fancy a school massacre to liven your village up with?

Actually they did rather well out of knowing where the line was and tip-toeing RIGHT up to it

I think they picture themselves as some sort of social revolutionaries, as per shocking is good. They had the same idea in psychiatry by connecting wires to the brain.

Ah yes, better for the profits of TV firms spewing out filth.

I guess all the seedy establishments in Soho would also be relieved by the removal of laws to regulate indecency.

You think clubs in Soho care about blasphemy?
Don't believe everything you think.
