Others could see this as 'whitewashing', like trying to erase black history in UK.

What about Greene King - shouldn't they remove all reference to 'green' before their dinosaur over-60 male clientele start thinking it's all a bit tree-huggy?

Come to think of it, 'King' is a bit sexist and to me, as a republic-ist, it sounds a bit monarchist too.

Greene King Black Boy pubs renamed in 'anti-racist' move

A brewery has renamed four of its pubs over concerns they had racist connotations.

Greene King has changed the names of three pubs called The Black Boy, and another called The Black's Head.

Managing director Wayne Shurvinton said there was a perception the names were "linked with racism".

Dr Halima Begum, of The Runnymede Trust, welcomed the news, saying the names had been a continual reminder of a "history of oppression".

The Black Boy pubs - in Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury in Suffolk, and Shinfield in Berkshire - along with the Black's Head, in Wirksworth, Derbyshire, have been given new names, but Greene King says it will take a while for the signage to be changed.

It is believed there are about 70 pubs called The Black Boy in the UK, and there remains no consensus on where the name comes from.

Links to the mining industry and a nickname for King Charles II have both been cited as possibilities.

Another theory relates to Native American figures placed outside premises to sell tobacco.

Mr Shurvinton said "despite the obscure origins" there was a perception the names were "linked with racism, which is why we knew we had to take this step if we wanted to continue on our journey to become a truly anti-racist organisation".

I totally get ethnic minorities wanting to get rid of all the racist attitudes but this isn't the way to do it.
We need to realise it's a small minority of people that hate due to skin colour, the vast majority of people don't give a fig.

Turning on a room of predominantly white folk is not the solution, that's becoming a part of the problem.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Not a million miles from me is Blackburn nearby a village called blackamoor a road of the same name pubs too.
Blackamoors were saracens and body guard to the knights templars......it's history not racism.

When i was growing up cromwell , you used terms like a black barsteward for someone who was filthy , bad body odour and lack of  cleanliness , not the colour of someones skin.

Scottish family names  and placenames  often have the word dubh in them , for example, the well known name macdougall means son of the black foreigner. A dubh gall was an old old historic name for a Dane , scotland like england is littered with names that would now cause offence if taken lieterally rather than historically in the context they were derived.

What a sad sad state of affairs and place we are all headed to.

These woke types want to re write history , and our very way of life  to suit their disgracefull agenda.

Its alomst like we are in a place now were they want  to punish real or imagined prejudice with more prejudice to even up the score or something.

The answer from Greene King should not have been we will change the name of some pubs that give a perception of links to racism but feck off we will call the pubs what we like . The customers can decide if they would rather drink elsewhere .

As you say Thomas in the OP , what a world we live in . Oh and Greene King , Ill be walking past to the next pub in the future .

QuoteKirsty Blackman
@KirstySNP
We need to talk about menstruation. Contrary to the views of a very famous author, using the word "menstruator" is not an attempt to erase the word "woman". The word menstruator is used to describe people who menstruate. This is not the same as women.

QuoteThe two main centres of infection for the woke entryist poison currently disfiguring the SNP are Stirling and Aberdeen, where they coalesce around two Westminster MPs – Twitler Youth gauleiter Alyn Smith and the worryingly unhinged Kirsty Blackman.

Quote'Brixton Windrush' ward proposed for south London

QuoteParts of south London are set to be renamed to honour the Windrush generation and erase links with slave traders.

A Brixton Windrush area has been proposed for Lambeth as part of a draft review of council wards by the Boundary Commission.

It also backed the scrapping of three Lambeth wards named after people with links to the slave trade — Vassall, Thurlow Park and Tulse Hill.

It comes as the first members of Sadiq Khan's "commission for diversity in the public realm", established after the Black Lives Matter protests last year, are due to be unveiled.

QuoteAnger at University of Leicester's 'decolonised curriculum' plans

A university is facing growing anger over its plans to drop English language and medieval literature modules and introduce a "decolonised curriculum".

The University of Leicester said it was considering cutting subjects after a "drop in demand", and instead focusing on ethnicity, sexuality and diversity.

But the idea has been met with dismay by a number of academics and students.

Since the plans were announced, some university staff have also received abusive messages online.

Among those opposed to the changes is Professor Isobel Armstrong, a fellow of the British Academy, who has returned her honorary doctorate from the university in protest.

The Leicester branch of the University and College Union (UCU) said Prof Armstrong made her decision "in protest at the egregious attack on the integrity of English at Leicester and the attempt to eradicate 1,000+ years of language and literature from the curriculum".
