and Miaow to you too Barry  :D

Poverty in the PRC has become a local issue in the most remote Provinces. It will often apply to small minority communities that have effectively been cut off and isolated for their entire existence. Most are also subsistence farmers, so while they may have been cash poor, they have the means to sustain themselves from the land, as far as that goes. It is the building of Infrastructure into these regions that makes change possible.

The biggest single factor though has always been generational. Nearly forty years ago young people from the countryside started migrating to the coastal cities to find paid work. This is has continued and developed at an ever increasing pace. The Wealth spread West into the Chinese heartlands with existing cities expanding massively and new cities appearing out of the ground. Now only the far Western provinces are left to bring fully up to speed.
Many of the poor in the heartlands were the Parent and Grandparent generation that missed out on the Migration gold rush. Most of these are now either gone or very elderly, many now living in cities with their children.

SPV will be along soon to say $2 buys a months shopping and a trip to the CCP local office on the bus.

Good news for the people of China . The poverty line being people earning less than $2 a day though would suggest they still have a long way to go

<t>In matters of taxation, Lord Clyde\'s summing up in the 1929 case Inland Revenue v Ayrshire Pullman Services is worth a glance.</t>

He has eradicated poverty in China, just when we were discussing the built-in poverty aspect of western currency.
Just because I don't say anything, it doesn't mean I haven't noticed!
