Another problem for England was the posturing of several high profile local mayors. Luckily London has Khan, and his inconsequential posturing and pronouncements went mostly unnoticed...

That is true and is pretty much the elephant in the room. All sides have come out with various ways to deal with this bug but not many folk are taking much notice. And Mayor Khan may flap his paws and whimper that it is all the fault of someone else, but who takes any notice of the poor sad bastard?

Having four sets of voices with four different takes did not help. They should have taken away the Welsh, Scottish and northern Irish death grip on health and had a single point of dissemination.

Dont agree john. Why is it brit nats always come out with this need for centralisation crap in Englands capital city while screaming any sort of european or world centralisation in combating covid is bad?

Hypocrisy as ever.

If you want rid of devolution john ( i do too , but i want it replaced with total indepdence) then the way to do it is democracy , not by sending an empty aircraft carrier up the taff or the clyde. ;)

Now apart from the fact you should have no more say on devolution in my country ( where on average only about 6 % of scottish residents historically want rid of holyrood) how did abolish the welsh assembly party get on in the recent welsh elections?

3.7%.......a paltry pathetic 3.7 % of the welsh list votes and no seats?

Democracy has spoken john. You are in a tiny minority it seems.

Possibly. But that's the result of devolution, and I doubt any one of the devolved administrations would have chosen to give up or pooled many of their responsibilities. The inhabitants of areas with devolved administration should have known which administration's advice and restrictions to pay attention to. Though it's possible the devolved administrations were no clearer and consistent in their own messaging than Westminster.

The major communication problem for govt has been caused by inconsistent and often contradictory messages coming from those in charge, and around the periphery.
A good Govt Information Function controlling and coordinating all the administration's and its different departments' info would have been helpful during the current pandemic.
Although such a function wouldn't have been able to counter the initial incompetence and subsequent panic in January 2020, it could have controlled govt messaging from March on — even today when there is still confusion over foreign travel and holidays...

<t>In matters of taxation, Lord Clyde\'s summing up in the 1929 case Inland Revenue v Ayrshire Pullman Services is worth a glance.</t>

"Appearing on the Trevor Phillips On Sunday programme, Lord Kerslake said communications had been a "major issue" during the pandemic."

That has to be the biggest load of bollocks since Mary told Joseph that she was up the spout via the Holy Ghost.

Since this nonsense started we have been bombarded with information. Most of it has been rubbish but that has not stopped every noddy with a desire for his or her five minutes of media time from standing up and spouting it.

Kerslake is a mathematician. He should be better than this.
