Someone who is sexually driven to commit crimes of this sort cannot be rehabilitated. They have long since overcome any moral qualms if indeed they had any in the first place. Their sexual urges can be diminished by repressing their libido but this is only ever partially effective.

Bottom line is that such types are generally too dangerous to ever be released and should be given whole life tariffs. Though as I understand it, he committed his crimes before such sentences were introduced. But that is a loophole that probably needs addressing.

It is incumbent upon those of us who oppose the death penalty for multiple reasons - a discussion of which is best left to another thread - to oppose the release of dangerous people like this back into the community.
We are not all in the same boat. We are in the same storm. Some of us have yachts. Some of us have canoes. Some of us are drowning.

Colin Pitchfork recalled to jail after approaching young women

Published20 minutes ago

Double child killer Colin Pitchfork was arrested and recalled to prison because he had been approaching young women, the BBC understands.

He was released two months ago after spending 33 years in jail for murdering two teenage girls in the 1980s.
Since then he is understood to have approached young women on multiple occasions while out on walks from the bail hostel where he was living.
He was arrested after probation staff raised concerns about his behaviour.
Barbara Ashworth, whose daughter Dawn was murdered by Pitchfork in 1986, told the Daily Mail: "It is worrying that he is approaching young women in this manner. It just goes to show that a leopard never changes its spots."
There have also been concerns he had been trying to cheat lie detector tests.

From Wikipedia:
I doubt he has been cured. He will always be a danger to young girls.
Must admit I'm uneasy too. But as we haven't got all the evidence presented to the judges who upheld the parole board's decision, I guess we just have to hope they're right...

There have been right wing governments for years now John in case you hadn't noticed.

Not round here, Jezza's Pal Dickford is on an all out power grab. He's already handing votes to kids and immigrants. Labour are already on record saying criminals should get a vote. Looks like there's only one way to get him stopped. He has said he was an admirer of those who used those methods ... So there we go then ...

From Wikipedia:
QuoteA psychiatric report prepared for the Court described Pitchfork as possessing a psychopathic personality disorder accompanied with a serious psycho sexual pathology. The Lord Chief Justice at the time of his sentencing said: "From the point of view of the safety of the public I doubt if he should ever be released."

I doubt he has been cured. He will always be a danger to young girls.

Colin Pitchfork: Double schoolgirl murderer's release confirmed
Published15 minutes ago

A double child killer who became the first murderer to be convicted using DNA evidence will be released.

Colin Pitchfork has served 33 years in prison after being jailed for raping and murdering 15-year-olds Lynda Mann and Dawn Ashworth in the 1980s.

Last month the Parole Board said it was satisfied the 61-year-old was safe for release, leading to a challenge by Justice Secretary Robert Buckland.

A judge-led review upheld the move and rejected the government's challenge.

Should Michael Stone be proved innocent would you still support capital punishment?

Capital punishment isn't perfect, but if we had no murderers, we wouldn't need to even consider it.
However, it can save lives by preventing re-offending.

Your argument is that we can't knock them off in case they are innocent. Fair enough, I might have misrepresented your lefty liberal position. You obviously reckon this one is guilty, so can we knock him off? :P

Have to admit I have mixed feelings about Pitchfork being released on parole. I accept the intention is to keep him under various restrictions. But there's already been cases of this control breaking down. And it appear people on parole react differently — eg, the killers of Jamie Bulger: one has since returned to a "normal" law abiding life, while the other has had further convictions including for drugs, violence and child porn.
I am against capital punishment, but neither do I think imprisonment for life without the prisoner being given the chance to give something back to society is the right way, but it may be the best at the moment.
Then there are those with mental problems, and also the whole crime and punishment conundrum — the UK has a high crime rate and a high prison population, so something in the system somewhere's not working. It can't just be the Island mentality...
