I don't know if it's true but I was once told that in China people only pay the doctor when they are well. It always seemed a good plan to me.

An analysis if you are interested:-

Have got any actual experience of the US medical system? Personal experience, not some anecdotal blurb from the pub?

Not direct experience but I do have relatives and friends who live there, and even Donald Trump questioned why American health insurance is so expensive.

Nearly 1 in 4 Americans are skipping medical care because of the cost

For many Americans, a trip to the doctor hinges on whether they can afford to go, rather than if it's a medical necessity.

Over the past year, 22% of Americans say they have steered clear of some sort of medical care — including doctor visits, medications, vaccinations, annual exams, screenings, vision checks and routine blood work — because of the expense,

66% of Americans fear they won't be able to afford health care this year

In my case it isn't blind adoration, it is the alternative of an American takeover is so much worse.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Bit strong — but it's true that any alteration of any aspect of the NHS excites plenty of interest. I guess that's because the NHS impacts the lives of many people or their relatives. That's why I find it perverse that some people continue to complain about the health outcomes of the nation when they go against the advice and recommendations of the NHS and its advisor, PHE...

No. It is because in the early days of the Peking Pox the posters said Protect the NHS, Save Lives!

Our national religion came first, the punters second

My view is that we do pretty well out of the NHS, but that this blind adoration is getting out of hand.

Has it ever occurred to you that in the USA nobody ever died of QUEUEING for medical attention.

Some might die of not being able to afford it, but that's not the same thing

Over here I've had three friends die waiting for cancer treatment, went clinically blind for months waiting for eye surgery surgery that cured the blindness instantly ...

I'm not entirely sure we aren't as bad as the USA and certainly were I have been working there doing what I do her the massively expensive insurance WOULD have got me seen, treated, cured and back in productive work YEARS earlier er .....

So the US insurance based health care system, which costs $11,072 per capita annually (the highest in the world) but is only rated 30th in health care performance by the WHO, is what we should all move to?

Are you being serious - I may still be only a student, but even I can see the lunacy of that argument!  ::)

Like Sir Nigel Farage said, we need to move to an insurance based system like the Americans.

I'm personally tired to hear the eternal moaning from Labourites and Remainers. The American system is plenty fine for us and is vastly more efficient than our eternal money sink NHS.
Our society has become way too socialist, that's why we lost our Empire which we are now set to regain. Meanwhile, America has prospered with an insurance based system and their population isn't worse off in any way. That's why we supported Brexit and that's why we need to vote for the Tories.

So bring on the firesale of the NHS, it can't come soon enough.

Has anyone also considered freeing up gun ownership in the UK as a way of ridding the country of the mentally unstable, less well off and criminal classes? Seems to work in the US, where guns are culling around 40,000 people (or 12 per 100,000) a year. It catches a few undeserving individuals, but on the whole it's working well...

Works for me as long as we can have a "freedom Day" when we can use them without being held to account.
