It did take Labour some 15 years to recover from Foot. Corbyn is a similar product of the righteous Left, so I guess power is for the Tories to lose over the next dozen or so years...

Well it's worth remembering the remain members of parliament who said.....and I quote "we cannot leave the eu,it's not possible because we are now too bound by its rules and regulations and intertwined in to the institution itself"
So you have to ask how many half witted prime ministers bound us treaty by treaty in to that.

Hand on heart would you join an institution/club or whatever that you weren't able to leave and if you managed to were required to carry on paying out to them.

May like so many of her predecessors had no heart for brexit and was a remainer, had one of them had the gumption to ask the electorate (and some promised but never followed up) perhaps we'd have left long ago or not been so intertwined

<t>In matters of taxation, Lord Clyde\'s summing up in the 1929 case Inland Revenue v Ayrshire Pullman Services is worth a glance.</t>

This and this is also the reason why I think we should put our NATO membership to a referendum.

I bet most of the population wants to LEAVE.
Perhaps I should have a referendum regarding your membership.
Energy....secure and affordable, not that hard is it?

That's right, the pandemic is why they require VAT numbers.

I can't be certain why the CE thing was brought up, which i why I asked for clarification, but it's 100% because of brexit.

I have regularly bought stuff from them over the years with zero issues.

I bought a similar part last autumn - during the pandemic but during the transition period - zero problems.

Now, after the transition ended - problems, and I'm not the only person experiencing them.  Did you see the pro brexit shellfish lady and what she has to do now to export her product? She lost an entire shipment worth several tens of thousands after the end of transition and has had to hire another person just to handle the paperwork.

Brexit is the sole cause of all the problems we're seeing now, but a lot of brexit problems are being masked by Covid.

The pandemic is hiding a lot of the problems being caused by Brexit.

How do you know if they are hidden?
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

What's stopping you?

Why aren't you using the opportunities you forced us?

The practical answer is, I don't want to be an importer or supplier of widgets. I just want to be able to buy my widgets cheaply and simply so I can get on and do the thing I want to do.

Why doesn't you builder set up a saw mill and mill his own lumber or set up a brickworks and make his own bricks and tiles instead of ordering from a builders merchant?
I am, by getting future proof factories built and creating a sustainable infrastructure, so why sit on your backsides moaning about not having Brussels rule your entire being, I am sure local engineering firms would be glad to turn out some of the right widgets if they saw the market, you say exists.
Just because I don't say anything, it doesn't mean I haven't noticed!

The things that are happening at the moment cannot be attributed to Brexit when we are in a global pandemic, as much as you want to.

Well yes, but that is largely snobbery, not technology.

Today's cyclists may like to spend telephone numbers so that they can whiz around in their self castrating pants and looking as though their hemorrhoids are killing them, but the real difference between modern bikes and those of yester year is that the former are lighter than the former. And that means they have to be simpler. And despite you Dutch mate's claims to having everything hand made by his workshop Elves, I reckon that he gets his stuff from China like everyone else.

So

(a) I would like to know the size of the crushing taxes and paperwork mountains that Mr Cloggie is struggling with and

(b) what are the parts he needs so desperately?
Snobbery may well be involved for the well-heeled punter — rather like Rolls, Bentley, and luxury Merc cars. But serious cycle sport participants still indulge themselves:

Whether the paperwork and tax regimes are crippling or not, some suppliers are reckoning they're not worth struggling with. On the parts question, I have no idea. But with Tour de France and all-terrain bikes costing £10K and more, I bet components are not stamped out for pennies in a baked bean can factory...

We're long past the penny-farthing and the Rudge-Whitworth sit-up-and-beg bicycles. These days, some specialist models can cost thousands of pounds.

I disagree. Brexit and Covid are proving a toxic mixture in many spheres...

Bojo-The-Clown not reading the Brexit agreement he signed has put a stop to a lot of that.
