Why is this £20 boost necessary? What are the extra costs for the unemployed?
Well food costs are rising because of the increase in transport costs and gas & electric is rising considerably too, perversely the poorest with prepayment meters are charged more per unit.
Energy....secure and affordable, not that hard is it?

Universal Credit has replaced many benefits both in work and out of work.
Tory austerity cuts to benefit both in work and out of work have left 14 million people in precarity.
Removing that £20 boost to UC will cause severe social problems. But as per usual the Tory government is doing a three wise monkeys to it, and are wildly out of touch.

Given the long list of very nasty Tory ex-DWP ministers who don't want the £20 boost to end, the Tory government has a problem.

Now former Tory leader and so-alled architect of Universal Credit (UC) Sir Iain Duncan Smith, along with five of his successors – Stephen Crabb, Damian Green, David Gauke, Esther McVey and Amber Rudd – have penned a letter in a bid to persuade Rishi Sunak to stick with the £5 billion benefits investment even after coronavirus restrictions have been eased.
