Who ?

Kidding. Met her about a decade ago, bits of "Doctors" was done round here, and my youngest was doing photographic art then .... You're old enough to be her grandad. I certainly am. Not sure whether to think lucky bugger or shame on you

I am old enough to be everyone's grandad.

But I can still dream  :) :)

Forgive me, but I cannot resist being a little playful here, in a tongue in cheek kind of way.....

Jesus was a great lover and champion of peace in an age of vilence and cruelty, was He not? Someone who advocated non-retaliation to violence, ie turning the other cheek? And preached love for everybody, including your enemies? And was He not a champion of those down on their luck and of the hated and despised, eg the poor, prostitutes and lepers? And was He not moved to anger at the gross greed and exploitation displayed by the capitalist money lenders?

Sounds like some kind of ancient hippy socialist to me, lol.

Dunno.

As far as we know, Jesus' dad was a small, self employed business man and tarts are effectively the same (although they are usually women). Like most conservatives He was after a deal not a row, which is why He made that Joke in John 8:8 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+8&version=KJV and defused matters in Matthew 20:21   https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2022:20-22&version=KJV

And he turned a pretty profit on a few loaves and fishes https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+6&version=KJV

Personally, He looked to have been a pretty shrewd lad business wise

Oooh no  I can't agree with that. I don't remember Jesus saying that only those who believe in Him will have eternal life. He came to save mankind. Exactly what your eternal life will be like is another matter and then belief is all important - and we are back to many mansions again. But all will be saved in the sense of rising as He did.
I'm sure you have read it before. But read John 3 very carefully. I won't point you to individual verses or you will say I am taking them out of context.  :P

Perhaps - I expect he wore sandals too.  Dancing Yes though you are right. The law up to then was all sacrifices and eye for an eye etc but as He fulfilled Moses law He had His own. Which is that in the sight of God we are all equal and should love one another as ourselves. It's a tough call. Having said that no-one should do evil to another that threatens life, so at that point we are justified in retaliation. He was/is a pretty fair minded guy. His 'rules' have stood the test of time.

We are not all in the same boat. We are in the same storm. Some of us have yachts. Some of us have canoes. Some of us are drowning.

One of the good things about knowing your death will be assisted in a couple of days under a new law, is the time available to make peace with God.
That could be an advantage for people who are currently lost.
You see, I think it really does matter, as if you are wrong and the Bible is right, it's the difference between eternal life and not.
Our destiny is the most important thing we need to know before we leave mortality.

It does not consume me at all.

Ah, but eternal life.

You see, I believe in an immortal soul within every living thing which is reincarnated. So whilst my body will die and the atoms within it return to the universe, my soul will go on to an afterlife before being reincarnated to walk the eath again.

Clearly, this is not Christian belief, but nor is it entirely materialistic either.

Sorry Toots.

Watching your parents die in agony is quite radicalising.

I mean every word.

And I do like Borchester's take.

Some people deserve to be left alive to suffer. All of those who forced it on my parents for a start.

Quote from: srb7677 on September 16, 2021, 07:28:25 PMThe fundamental difference comes down to one of belief. Whether or not you believe that biblical scripture is the word of God.

I don't think it really matters as long as we all try to be good people living good lives and can all avoid persecuting or killing each other over differences in belief.

There may well be, and those who believe in such words are entitled to their beliefs.

But what about those of us who by a process of reason and independent thought, reach the conclusion that the bible is largely a work of fiction, along with the type of entity God is described as being in it's pages?

Many Christians might regard me as evil for daring to think that, others will more pragmaticcaly view me as a misguided soul who might yet be saved. I tend to view them as being rather deluded, if good intentioned in many cases.
