The number of hospital beds has declined since the 1980's here allegedly is the reason why.

 :hattip Well pointed out!

I have had several cardio procedures which have been limited to a maximum of two nights in hospital, when the forerunners to these procedures, in as much as they existed, would have required open heart surgery and a stay of between 7-10 days. This is an example of just how surgical procedures relating to many different medical conditions are reducing the need for extended hospital stays.

Needles to say smurf has introduced his own bigoted view that it is all down to the Tories, a blind hatred which seems to govern his every waking moment. If this is true perhaps he might be able to explain why the worst UK NHS care is that provided in Wales which is governed by Labour in the Welsh Assembly and which is entirely responsible for the provision of health services in Wales.

I agree with you. The whole incident was most unfortunate but in an organisation as massive as the NHS incidents such as this are always going to happen.

There is no suggestion from the hospital that the child suffered any hardship or lack of care as a result of a lack of availability of a bed.

It is also important to note that the child's GP had diagnosed influenza. The child's mother was not satisfied with that diagnosis and took the child to hospital where the GP's diagnosis was subsequently confirmed. Therefore in retrospect the child should not even have been there but home in bed.

I will avoid being critical of the parents, because as a parent I am aware of how precious our children are to most of us, and I can understand the desire for confirmation in the form of a second opinion.

In my view this was a storm in a teacup, predictably leaped on for political benefit by opposition parties.

I agree with you for once   but not on the Tory bit, health care mainly for the elderly has not been good for years or none existent for many

The main problem is bed blocking which is caused by a lack of homecare, and that is a problem caused by the Tories.

In 2018 hospitals had mothballed 82 wards with 1,429 empty beds, around around England — the equivalent of two entire hospitals —  mostly results of hospitals not having enough staff or the money to keep wards open.

Anybody seen more recent figures, or an explanation of how staff will be recruited and promises fulfilled after the election? Or are we being bombarded by claims that reports of delays, staff shortages, and photos of kids lying on the A&E floor are fake...?

The thread opener stated that 82 wards were left empty in 2018 due to staff and money shortages. The only implication being (as far as I can see) that building more hospitals would give more empty beds.

Nothing to do with disputed photos...

You imply that in the thread opener.  You should clarify.

Reading and comprehension, can we assume that was one of the lessons that you bunked off when you were at school Pappy?

Nothing wrong with my reading and comprehension, there is with your lack of clarity.

Another argument about snow being white. What part of "Or are we being bombarded by claims that reports of delays, staff shortages, and photos of kids lying on the A&E floor are fake...?", do you understand to mean that I personally dispute the truth of either the photo or story...?
