Health & Safety Executive allow 30 litres to be stored at home in appropriate container(s) without permission or licence. A 20 litre jerrycan can be carried in/on a normal private vehicle...

Who cares how big a container. If they didn't do this, there would not be a shortage. Panic buying will create a problem which did not actually exist.  Rant

The problem is Grant Shapps, he stated there was no need to panic, and with his track record of lying people assumed there was reason to panic.

That's the limit for plastic containers. Metal containers (jerrycans) up to 20 litres are perfectly legal — unless rationing is introduced, by the govt or the seller...

Actually in metal containers is it 30 litres, but then there are storage regulations to comply with.

They can rock up with a many petrol cans as they like, a petrol station will only serve them with 10 litres.

And? What has that to do with the price of fish, people are not allowed to drive over the limit, burgle, rape, murder and many other things but still do.

They can only legally store 10 litres in cans at home.  The petrol station can refuse to serve more than that.

Bloody media "don't go out and panic buy" so the world and his wife do and it took me 15 minutes to get across a roundabout with an exit going to a supermarket filling station.
Look across bad tempers, much hooting and people with half a dozen petrol cans in the boot.

The only time Truckers get any aggression

But have you ever driven truck for a living?
Total panic at the petrol stations in the nearest town to where I live, queues out on to the roads.

What is rarely mentioned is the lack of overnight truck stops and the bad conditions in those that do exist.
(Plus having to deal with some very hostile members of the public.)

Yeah, there's a massive shortage, as you can see from the map below.
The only time Truckers get any aggression as far I've seen is when the try and use their weight to bully other drivers.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Not with petrol tanker drivers. (Esso and Tesco have just announced problems as well.)

I am puzzled about a shortage of petrol tanker drivers, it is one of those jobs where normally a driver has to die or retire before there is a vacancy.

The shortage of drivers is blamed on a confluence of issues including non-UK workers affected by Brexit, pandemic delays holding up HGV tests, and drivers being caught up in the "pingdemic" of COVID alerts earlier this year.

But Rod McKenzie of the Road Haulage Association told Sky News: "This is a cocktail of chaos, and I'm afraid it's getting worse because the attrition rate is against us.
"We have got more drivers leaving than joining, so as every week goes by there's something new in the supply chain that's creaking and crumbling."

Not since they've been contracted out.

Not just anyone with an HGV licence can drive a petrol tanker.
