Following Scottish devolution in 1999, health and social care policy and funding became devolved to the Scottish Parliament. It is currently administered through the Health and Social Care Directorates of the Scottish Government.

In 2015 it was estimated that 265,000 people were at risk of malnutrition in Scotland costing £2B in terms of health and social care costs. With the increased burden of disease and an ageing population, this has now risen by 8% for 2019 and is set to continue to increase by over 40% by 2040.

After smoking, Scottish eating habits are the second most important cause of the nation's poor health. The average Scottish diet is low in cereals, vegetables and fruit but high in confectionery, fatty meat products, sweet and salty snacks, cakes, and excessive amounts of sugary drinks and alcohol. The diets of children are especially poor and until recently so have been school meals. Poor diet contributes 'to a range of serious illnesses, which include coronary heart disease, certain cancers, strokes, osteoporosis and diabetes.

As a nation, we in Scotland have a diet that's too high in calories, fats, sugar and salt, and too low in fibre, fruit and veg, and other healthy foods like oil-rich fish. Our poor diet is deep-rooted and hasn't changed significantly in the last fifteen years.

one for pappy....

Old news, I have stopped wasting my time posting such issues on the forum because of the rabid Tories suffering from cognitive dissonance.

Cases of malnutrition have almost doubled in the decade since the Conservatives came to power in 2010.
In the 2010/2011 financial year, people were treated in hospital 4,657 times for the condition.
By the most recent year, 2020/2021, this had risen to 10,109.
Statistics compiled by the NHS also show that cases of the Victorian disease scurvy, which comes from a lack of Vitamin C, have also doubled – although the figures are still relatively low.
